So anyway, I see a therapist who I've been seeing for a couple years now. Basically I got my uncle to write a letter to my therapist to state what he thought I should work on. I didn't know what my uncle said until I gave it to my therapist. One of the sentences apparently got my therapist to think about something that must have been in the back of his mind. My uncle said "She doesn't care about anything if it doesn't have to do with birds"

My therapist asked me a few more questions, and said "This is Asperger's" he said he could tell for the longest time I have social skills problems too.

Anyway, he said however my ADD stuff was even stronger. He checked my diagnosis, I apparently still dxed with OCD... which he agrees is totally wrong, but he's going to talk to my psychiatrist about adding ADHD and Asperger's to my dx, and getting rid of OCD.

I just don't know how I feel about this.

It's like trainers throwing away Pokémon because they see new ones.

And these people are supposed to be my colleagues. Do some research for God's sake.

DX update: Schizoaffective, OCD(wrong dx)
What my therapist is trying to get on my dx: ADHD, Asperger's

This. Wrongly diagnosing someone is not ok in my book.

Yeah, the OCD was wrong. But I've had so many changes to my diagnosis that it's not funny.

And ummmmm maybe I really am Aspie, but you analogy makes no sense to me

That made me laugh!

Ontopic:
What is it that you are feeling insecure about, the AD(H)D, the Asperger's, or the removal of the OCD-diagnosis?
Now I wanted to say something cheering, but the fun part blew my mind for a second, sorry.

I find that pretty interesting. Although I realize you can be on the spectrum without having OCD, it's odd to me for a psych to drop OCD and add ASD.

Then again, I'm not a professional. I just took a few psych classes a few years ago whe I was thinking about becoming a teacher. lol

OCD is often seen alongside Asperger's, and, from what I've heard, conditions like these generally tend to come bunched together. (I took five psychology courses in my first two years of post-secondary -- that's the limit of my expertise.) I agree with the others who've found your therapist's drop-and-switch approach to diagnosis somewhat odd.

I'm diagnosed with both OCD and Asperger's. The part I think of as OCD includes repetitive checking routines (doors, taps, appliances, etc.), occasional unwanted thoughts and an urge to do things in patterns or "fours." For instance, on a checkered floor I usually feel compelled to move like a knight in a game of chess. The Asperger's, I think, is a matter of social and sensory weirdness, obsession (as an interest, not a bothersome fixation of the kind seen in OCD) and so on.

I'm not trying to give you my life story or anything, just some insight into your own condition. If none of what I've said applies to you, ignore it. But if you have significant numbers of symptoms of Asperger's and OCD, I think you should be skeptical of your therapist's recommendation to drop one diagnosis in favour of another.
