I will, since it's pretty much used to describe anyone on the spectrum at the moment anyway.

How's about you?

I don't even call myself an Aspie now, so I can't wait for the spectrum to be merged so that I don'thave to deal with others calling me that either.

This is a perfect example of why genetic research is important, because there may be underlying biological distinctions between AS and autism, which would argue for retaining AS as a distinct diagnostic category, e.g.:

Chakrabarti B, Dudbridge F, Kent L, Wheelwright S, Hill-Cawthorne G, Allison C, Banerjee-Basu S, Baron-Cohen S. Genes related to sex steroids, neural growth, and social-emotional behavior are associated with autistic traits, empathy, and Asperger syndrome. Autism Res. 2009 Jun;2(3):157-77. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/1959 ... dinalpos=1

Tony Attwood would disagree, it's pretty clear they're the same thing. But I don't want to make this a debate about the difference between AS and HFA.

I think it's probably more convenient and less silly to say aspie rather than Huffffaaa.

If there is no such thing as aspergers except in the history of autism diagnosis, the term "aspergers" will go away. You would have give a history lesson to explain why you consider "aspie" to be a nickname for someone with autism. Then again, would it be a strange thing for an autistic person to give a history lesson about something no one else seems to care about?

You could just say "it comes from what autism used to be called".

As far as I'm concerned, I will always be an aspie.

I only grudgingly accept the term aspie cause I have nothing else to call myself that labels me as such.

I already don't say aspie.

And by the way, AS isn't merging with "HFA". It's merging with autism, period. It's not merging with some special designated section of autism.

for a start, i do not say "aspie", but i know what you are asking.
for seconds, if "AS" merges with "hfa", then it must still be definable as AS.

an egg mixed with milk, is still an egg when the milk is taken away.

are you asking whether "hfa" and AS" are distinct?

i was diagnosed "hfa" until 1996 when i was rediagnosed AS.

my original diagnosis of "HFA" was a grudging acceptance by my psychiatrist that "AS" was not an available diagnosis at the time.
she studied AS and she told me i was AS in 1984, but i had to be labeled HFA.

i am at the borderline between AS and HFA. i am more displaced from normalcy than most of the AS people here.

i can not rise up to engage in all your natty conversations, but i am also not dull.

damnation!! !. as soon as i hit "post" and i read what i posted, i realized there was a stowaway comma and i returned to edit it as fast as i could , but i was pipped at the post and i got the "last edited by" comment.
now i return to explain that, it will say i edited it twice.

...4 times edited now because i had to remove an insulting comment

This was one poll that I am not able to vote in; I am an Autie. However, I don't really care is someone calls me an Aspie.
