Do NTs and people on the spectrum misinterpret each others tone of voice? My stepdaughter will ask how I'm and I'll say 'I'm fine', to which she'll reply , in a concerned way, 'Are you sure?' Doesn't always happen, but has happened on more than a few occasions.

for me it's not the tone of my voice but a disconnect between what's being said and a matching facial expressions.

i also use 'I'm fine' to hide my real feelings and not to worry people , so maybe it's obvious to some

That's a very good point. That makes more sense than just tone of voice.
