I can be social if it suits me, though its often awkward, and drains me psychologically if I keep it up for long, but the bottom line is, NO - I choose to be a recluse and I'm content with that. I don't want the NT pill, no matter how glib and facile it might make me. I think a lot of younger people (teen and 20-something) with AS think they would like to be more social, but you outgrow that when you come to the stark realization that by and large, most people aren't worth knowing, much less wasting time on. They're demanding, petty, selfish, manipulative and as often as not downright stupid. There are a carefully chosen handful I care to socialize with and the rest can go rot.
That's not say I'm rude to people in general, just that I wouldn't call on them unless there's business to be conducted.
I have to agree. I was feeling a little lonely these past few days because I had to cancel my weekly bowling for two weeks straight, so I went to a party last night. Most people there were a complete waste of my time, and kept touching me. Don't. Touch. Me.
I'm cured of the 'social bug' for now.
