Do you find yourself sometimes repeating yourself? Not in a ' I forget i'd told that story before' kind of way, but repeating words and phrases. I'll find myself doing it sometimes. I can be aware I'm doing it a certain level, but it's still uttered.

I do it all the time and I have been picked up on it. My brain seems to shift into a gear that compels me to keep going once I've started, so I'm filling in with repeated ideas whilst I'm reaching for the next thought. I should try to pause or slow down, but it's hard once I've flipped that switch to start talking.

I've not been picked upon it because it's not something I do when with other people. That may or may not mean anything.

There are certain phrases which I repeat----sometimes out loud, and sometimes not.

"I am the Wolfman" is one of them. People look at me rather askance on the subway when I do this.

They also don't like it that I'm trying to gain steps by walking from one of a subway car to another LOL

This COVID thing has people on edge, and paranoia is sort of in the air.

Yes. And I don't usually realize I have done it... Though I can do it several times in a single reply to a single thread!

But I am not repeating the same words over and over again repetedly. I am more forgetting I have said things before to a person and telling the story or joke again if that makes sense?
I remember when I was working on the railways. I would say jokes to keep passengers amused. Then one day I seemed to notice that passengers seemed to alread have heard the joke I said so I asked "Have I said that before?" and one passenger said "Yes. Every day for the last nine years! That's why we think it is so funny!" Oops! I guess it is not the joke itself but the way I tell them? :P

I talk to myself alot and part of that Is me repeating myself. Sometimes i just repeat words or phrases that might have something to do with people i'm talking to or like ideas i have about life. I too am not fully aware of me talking to myself, but It's kind of subconscious and if i'm not paying attention, I don't notice it. I think it might be a form of echolalia. I also repeat myself in the other way as well as i forget I've told people things pretty often.

I'm just imagining being in a discord call then out of no where someone's just like WELCOME TO MY MINECRAFT LETSPLAY!. I kind of do have speech that often goes in patterns i think. but like for me it's more just that I repeat things relating to what i'm doing right then but i'm not really fully aware of it always. Usually it's because i find it amusing

I repeat myself all the time. Sometimes it's echolalia, sometimes it's a vocal stim, sometimes it's my way of processing something I have heard so that I can understand it.

My father would never repeat himself, and I used to come close. I hate it when I'm paying close attention, and the new point turns out to be the same as the last one, just re-worded. Lately, though, I've noticed a lot of speakers repeating things exactly, just for emphasis. Perhaps they are using the time to think, and prefer not saying "um" to hold their place in the queue. William Strunk was a stickler for eliminating excess words, but then he'd repeat the surviving sentences three times in his classes.
