If you tried Ritalin to see if it would help a little, what was your experience? Good? Neutral? Other?

They didn't know I was sensitive to it and ended up way overdosing me. I got pretty much zombified--bad idea.

Turned out the solution was to try a low dose, and extended-release, stimulant. I'm on Concerta now. It's causing minor heart arrhythmias, though, so I'm going to meet with the therapist and see if there's something else I can try.

At least trying different stimulants doesn't take forever, the way it does with antidepressants. With a stimulant, you'll know pretty quickly whether or not it'll work.

The shrink thought I liked it too much, so he took me off of it.

I was on it when I was about 8 years old for a few months. It helped me focus for a very short time with school work and generally made going to school more tolerable, but the up's and down's proved to be too much and I asked for my parents to stop giving it to me (which they did). I haven't taken anything for attention since, and still struggle daily with executive function. Recently my psychiatrist suggested I try strattera, which I have become very interested in after reading about how it works. I still haven't decided if I will try it though. But yeah, ritalin had a pretty bad effect on me, it made me feel like i was stuck inside a dream and I couldn't remember falling asleep, it was a real strange and uncomfortable feeling.

Uhh.... wtf!? Apparently this fellow doesn't know much about Ritalin. It has never given me a "high" in my life, not even when I was taking way too much thanks to a silly doctor who had never heard of the possibility of hypersensitivity. And I haven't heard of anyone else getting a high off it, either, unless they were taking massive overdoses or else injecting the stuff.

The only abuse I've heard of with Ritalin is with overachiever college students taking the stuff so they can pull all-nighters. (It works about as well as caffeine--i.e., the quality of your work is pretty much crap, but hey, you're awake... On two occasions I've taken an extra half-dose in the evening to work late; but it's never very good work.)

It has made me high, and I've done a lot of drugs. I know what HIGH really feels like. lol. It was kind of like a coke high but less euphoric for me, even when I was taking it orally. This was mostly when I first started taking it though. After a month or so I felt normal but I was also on mood stabilizers.

Adderall has made me VERY high as well, no joke. Twenty milligrams or so really felt like it shouldn't have been legal to me=X

The chemical structures of caffeine and Ritalin are different. Caffeine (not a cure) works along the lines of: http://www.rsna.org/rsna/media/pr2005/Coffee.cfm - Coffee jump-starts short-term memory. Caffeine as contained in FDA approved caffeine compounds (often 100 mg) is classified as an alertness aid (a weak stimulant - alerting agent). That's my understanding. - pgd

For some reason I respond better to weaker coffee - caffeine which temporarily reduces distractibility a little for me (not a cure) and temporarily increases my attention span a little (not a cure). People are different. What works for one person may not work for the next person. That's my understanding. - pgd

I took Adderall XR for years, but it was hard to get the dosage right--too many peaks and valleys through the day. I switched to Vyvanse and like it much better.
