What have eye doctors (opthamologists,.optometrists, and opticians) said about the topic of eye contact and Asperger's since they are people trained in eyes?

---

* Technical footnote: Most opticians are not doctors.

They don't really deal with that, it's more of a psychological thing.

Many kids with autism who do have visual processing/depth perception issues appear to have no problems when their eyes are examined.

There are neuroopthamologists that deal with some of those issues, not really eye contact issues though.

I've had 4 eye doctors and I hated all of them... doesn't help with autism at all. If any doctor suggests glasses in order to "correct autism" its a load of BS.

I'd be curious in knowing. It seems the general population never uses their peripheral vision, because if I'm not looking directly at them I couldn't possibly be aware of their existence.

I hate going to the eye doctors. Ever thing they shine in my eyes hurts. The more I have come to understand aspergers the more I see that my problem is light. Stuff blub lights are fine with me. Out side of that I dont' like a lot of different lights in my eyes.

I hate going to eye doctors too. I can't stand anything in or around my eyes at all.

It is for this reason that I can't wear contacts, apply eye drops, etc.....

I almost got into a fight with a the guy at lens crafter that makes sure the eyeglasses fit properly. I refused to let him put the glasses on my face. When he let me put them on myself he then wanted me to stare into his eyes so he could see if they sat correctly I flat out refused. I said "they feel all right I will pay for them and go" as I got up from the chair the guy grabbed me by the bicep so I pushed him back and told him "don't you ever touch me". He started to step up but either was afraid he was going to get fired or relised how much bigger I was comparred to him then backed off. My brother stood there laughing at him out of nervousness. This was in the early 90's before I thought I had autism. I thought I might have been slightly insane. My brother said he was looking foward to seeing me talk my way out of the situation when the cops showed up if I would of beat the guy senseless.

The drops litteraly burned my eys but everyone told me I was just being a wuss. I think they changed the formula becuase it was bothering normal people and it dosen't burn as much as it used to. But today as an adult, having air puffed into my eyes drives me into a meltdown. I'd rather go blind than deal with that crap and I mean it. Next time I go to get new glasses, I tell the person I am there for new glasses ONLY and if they insist on making me have a meltdown they have lost my buisness.
