The revelation of my Aspieness has led to many pieces of the puzzle that is my life falling into place. One of them is my taste in music.
My wife has always given me a hard time about the music I listen to. She says I only like music that bums people out. I tell her that I like music that means something. That is created, not planned. I like music that tells a story or makes a strong statement (protest music, etc.). I always enjoy music that is really sad, not sappy. Songs that go "baby, baby, I love you" have never done it for me.
What I now believe is that in order for music to get through my deficient (by NT standards) emotional receptors the emotions put forth must be especially strong. My BS detector is very sensitive and if the singer or band doesn't mean it I can tell right away.
Anyway... does anyone get this? If you don't it's ok, I'm used to it as I'm sure you are.
Oh yeah, my current favorite band is Bad Religion.
I listened to alot of hardcore punk when I was younger. ( Dead Kennedy's,Misfits, Bad Religion, etc) I don't listen to it too much anymore. All though I dig out the LP's from time to time. The newers stuff for the most part doesn't speek to me, just getting older I guess. I listen to a lot of world music, instrumental rock (Man or Astro Man?), and steel guitar music.
Most of the stuff on commercial radio is pure crap. We have a good college station in our area that I listen to.
Favorite Bad Religion songs: American Jesus and Kerosene.
I am very much like this, and I have a sensitive BS detector as well. Sappy, "Baby, Baby, I love you" songs creep me out!

I am the same way. I love protest and folk music from the sixties and seventies. R&B and Blues are great as well. Some rap from early groups like NWA is good because it tell an interesting about life in the inner-city. One of my current favorites is Good Time Charlie's Got the Blues. It has been covered by a few artists, but Danny O'Keefe's version is by far the best.
