I've never heard or read that, and it would depend on how you define 'self-consciousness'. What psychologists mean in a clinical sense is often quite different than what is meant in a conversational sense, so...
That said, I think I'm more self conscious since my diagnosis than I ever was before in my life. Now I worry that I'm walking funny, or that my awkwardness and clumsiness are glaringly visible to everyone around me and I was just oblivious to it before, and it makes me very nervous, which only makes the awkwardness worse...
