As an Aspie, I spend most of my time alone. I was actually shocked by this youtube video when I first saw it. It is about 'why it is ok to be alone', 'why you should not be afraid to be alone', and so forth.

It is a good video, and I think that the fear of being alone is something that NT's struggle with, even if being alone is second nature to someone with Aspergers like myself. Its worth the watch even if you're not an NT!

That expressed, BEAUTIFULLY, the way I feel about life. :)

Thanks.

Maybe I'm just different, but I've never been able to feel comfy with being alone for more than 3 nights or so. I just stop doing anything but the bare essentials....I function reasonably well and don't get particularly depressed, but there's a very bad feeling inside that tells me being alone is wrong for me. If I don't have a few meetings on the horizon with OK people, I don't feel I'm really living. Special interests can distract me very well for a time, but these days I also feel a lot of anxiety about pursuing them, because I know that they're doing nothing for my social growth. They're way too technical to share with most people. :(

That is an awesome video/poem...thank you so much for sharing it. It expresses exactly how I feel about being "alone." Alone and lonely are not the same things....sometimes we are alone because we are rejected by others. Other times we are alone because WE reject those others. More often than not, at least in my own life, I'm the one doing the rejecting...really, if I could get away with it, I'd be alone a lot more than I am...

I totally agree with that video. I often feel as if a lot of people get so worked up over being lonely because society tells us that we are supposed to make friends. Well, friends are good to have and it's good to socialise, but I agree that being alone and observing the world around you is fine as well because it gives you the freedom to get away from social pressures for a while and leave more space for other endeavors.

Then again, I do have the luxury of having friends and acquaintences, so maybe I am a little ignorant about this.

However, oddly enough, I do find myself travelling to the city centre just to be alone. Oddly, it's the best place to be alone (at least for me). I would like to go to the movies alone very soon (normally I go with others because it is normally a special occassion which often means that you have to share the experience with others). I guess it wouldn't be much different from going with others, except for the fact that you wouldn't have anyone to discuss the film with or get excited about trailers with. I enjoy my solitude, though, so it's not that much different from what I normally do, anyway.
