Would this be a special interest or what would you call it?

The fact that I love to learn new facts and such. I call it "loving to learn" behavior. I'm not sure if I'd categoirize this as special interest or perhaps you have another word/term for it. I've made a topic like this in the past and others here on WP seem to do it too. Is it an Aspie thing that we tend to want to learn more and we are never satisfied? Thinking/talking about one topic (in my case Psychology) drove my parents crazy which I know now is part of AS and are obsessive nature but the behavior aspect of loving to learn is intriguing and I wanted your insight into it whether you do it and WHY do we do it? Thank You.

I have always had a "special interest". Even as a child I drove people crazy talking about whatever it was that I was focused on. For me learning about something I'm interested in is like the greatest drug in the world.
I have noticed that I always have two. One is musical and the other is technical. The technical side has been electronic circuitry for the past twenty years. On the musical side I recently have become obsessed with the lap steel guitar and have basically given up the standard guitar, wich I have played most of my life. My NT friends don't understand how I could give up something that I was so good at for something that I'm just learning. They don't understand.

That's the perfect example of what a special interest would be.

I call it a gift from God, and can't imagine not having special interests. However, I hypothesize that we obsess with the same circuits the NTs are using for people and relationships and socializing and such.

I love having special interests!! Right now, they are Germany (included in my ancestry) and The Phillies! Those are what I always talk about and I drive people crazy with it.
