Grease: The car race
Star Wars: Luke in the trench....
Anymore?
I`m talking about situations where the underdog comes out as the winner and people can do nothing but admire that individual achivement. I think its a great confidence booster. Like a stranger suddenly coming in and being 1st. Another great aspect of this is puting your heart and soul into something you know your good at, When you can be interested in something but actually make people look up and say "wow, thats pretty good". I`ve have been interested in old cars for years `cos of my brother and yet now i am building my own custom/classic that i`m going to put on show and people are going to look at it and that is what I have made, no one else but ME, and thats a confidence booster. All Aspies know what its like to be put down and im not ingnorant as to how much it can make you hate the outside world but its such a great feeling when you win them over, not even with just art, drawings or knowledge but with things many Aspies could never do. I love the movie Convoy (anyone else here like it?) as it shows how the individual can apeal to the masses and they support that, follow him and the powers at be can do nothing to stop that. When i was at school I hated PE (sports) as nearly always it was team sports where i was always last picked for the team but......on a rare ocasion we would do 100mtres sprint and NO ONE could beat me and they all knew it and cheered me as i took my place on the start line and boy did that drive me!! I was also known for my guitare playing, and knowkledge of the Titanic and then suddenly the Movie came out and people where falling over themselves to talk to me to learn about it.

Something anyone in the UK will see a lot of is boy racers. In my taxi the other day where a group of young lads and one said about a BMW in front "look at that beast" he said "thats the 4ltr" he whent on, and i just casualy said "its boring if you ask me"
This left him slightly stunned and confused as im just the geek, i couldnt be bothered to go on about american Hemi`s or big blocks.......

Im not saying drop everthing and be the center of attention, the the last thing i would want to be niether am i saying anyone should stop there Aspies routines Im just saying it is possible to WIN ! !! ! And beat the majority at there own game.

The Jason McElwain is a good example of this. The team manager turns out to be the best three point shooter on team!

Anyhoo, I could tolerate being in the limelight for only a short time. Winning though like everything else, is best handled in moderation.

personally i prefer to see life as something other than a competitive endeavour. its easier to stay sane that way. also its a bit less social darwinian. the greatest of all possible boosts for your self esteem will come when you get out of that mindset of seeing yourself as a loser at the game of life.

well at least thats what i'm hoping
