I saw one person here talking about how she had difficulties with organizing/.../, and I wanted to post some helpful resource for all people here who struggle with ADHD.

I have a hard time getting organised at work. I'm always the last one to have all my stuff ready. My supervisor says I'm just slow, but I'm not slow really, just unorganised and forgetful. I'm not even very good at writing out lists to help myself get organised. When I do, I realise I have wrote some things down in the wrong order, then I get even more confused than I do without the list.

I will read those links, when I'm done procrastinating. :lol:

yes, it can be very difficult :( thank you for sharing your experience.. I hope things get better for you.
~ So we see there's also the emotional and motivational component, which is so hard to maintain while having a low sense of efficacy or failing to meet others' expectations, compounded by the difficulties of being misunderstood and labeled etc... Self-compassion is a very important component in ADHD management, and it comes from understanding that you're not alone in this, and that small steps matter alot, and.. oh well. :)

One idea I found to be helpful from this book is so called "Stubby To-Do List" method:

Making a Stubby To-Do List
The stubby to-do list strategy is outlined by Kolberg in ADD-Friendly Ways to Organize Your Life,
co-written with Kathleen Nadeau, Ph.D. There, they describe the stubby to-do list as “bold and big
and hard to ignore” and much shorter than the to-do list outlined in Option 1. To make a stubby
to-do list, get brightly colored sticky notes or notepads—lined works best.

Each day, write 5 MUST-DO-TODAY items on a single sticky note, in the biggest letters that fit on
the note. Start each item with an action verb to get you going: “PAY bills,” “SEND birthday card,”
etc.

Choose one place to keep this list at all times: in your wallet, stuck to the back of your phone, or on your computer.
Cross off items as you complete them, and each night transfer uncompleted items to tomorrow’s list. Never have more than five items on your list. If you find that you’re transferring more than 3 items regularly, your list is too long. Shorten it until you can complete every task every day, without transferring any to the next day.


Often it is helpful to choose 1 thing sounds promising, and practice it for some time, because obviously there are different approaches, just like there are different people and different needs =)

Wow thank you for sharing all of these tips, they're so incredibly useful! Although in ADHD fashion I've only listened to 15 mins of the youtube video so far (while also doing something else on my computer), then I've skimmed through the other linked pages and come back here to write this comment :). But I really do want to eventually absorb and then use a lot of these tips.

I like the ideas of cutting down on the number of items (e.g. only having so many shoes) and buying everything the same (e.g. all the same size of dinner plate etc). I've been thinking for a while that I need to throw all my socks away and just have all black or all blue socks so that I don't have to match them up anymore. I am almost always wearing odd socks!

I also really like the stubby list idea. I have a problem keeping and maintaining to do lists, like every organizational thing I try - I do it for a day or two or maybe a week, then I go back to chaos. I'm tired of always having to pay late fees because I can't make myself pay my bills on time, I've had services cut off several times too. It is nice to discover that there are neurological reasons for this and it's not just me being lazy and useless.
