I never had the serious "pizza face" breakout but when I started to get zits at age 10 or 11, they would hurt. Even as an adult I sometimes get seriously painful zits (or something like a zit) and they hurt so bad I can't take it anymore and take an exacto knife and scrape it off. I know that's a risk itself but I'd rather have a scar than go crazy from a zit. I used to think regualr teenagers hated acne because of the pain but now I think maybe it's just because it messes up their apearence. I have sensations most people don't have, such as my teeth itching, so I don't think painful zits are a sensation most people have.

I used to get quite painful spots, and cystic acne is no joke. I really would prefer not to have the scars.

The causes of acne are unknown, or kept secret. Anecdotally, I'd say don't use acne face wash products to wash, try and eat a balanced diet (more greens, less carbs, sugar), and try to relax.

I have never really had acne on my face until now but it's been very mild they're just bumps and hard to see. I have gotten pimples near my lip a few times when I was a teen and it hurt.

Acne is caused by your body making too much oil and it gets trapped and unable to come out so it blocks and it makes the bump.

I used acene cream to help my chest and back and now I use soap and water. It helps out a lot. My pimples rarely hurt.

I had really bad cystic acne, but after years of trying different things my dr gave me roacutaine, but its dangerous so only for very bad acne. I had it come back a few months after stopping the roacutaine, but Ive found as I got older if I avoid gluten and dairy I stay relatively spot free, though I still constantly have about 5 big spots :(

whatever you do dont sqeeze them no matter how tempted you are as it leaves scars then, I have terrible scars on my cheeks which make me very self concious.

you can buy 'panoxyl 10' gel from the chemist for about £5 with out perscription which Ive found to be quite effective (though tastes bad so wash it off before snogging!).

I might have run into cystic acne before. As I type this, I have one of these on my right forehead.

I dont usually have acne on muy face.

For some odd reason I have it mostly on my back, which makes it painful when I´m sitting in something thats not soft and all. My mother has been trying to get it out for a year but for some reason whenever we have a breakthrough spots start appearing again.

I dont know what to do right now.

I have a spot on my forehead that hurts really bad when touched, I thought I might be getting another zit but remembered early this morning I smacked the same area on the courner of my nightstand. When I get painful zits, they often feel the same way as a forming bruise does.

I heard you can take birth control pills to help control bad acne, but I am not sure if that is a recommended way to get rid of zits

I've had acne since I was 10 years old, and my most common acne spots are my chin, shoulders, back, and chest. Sometimes I get cystic acne and those things take at least 3 weeks to fully heal. I've been put on every acne cream and medication short of accutane and most things haven't helped. I just wash with soap and water and use stridex 2-3 times a day to get the dirt off of my face. And keep hair out of your face and back, that helps as well.

My acne also really hurts and I feel better once the gunk is out of it. Recklessly squeezing in elementary school left me with a few scars though... If you cannot stop squeezing to get the gunk out, just make sure there's a clear head on the zit. Those ones rarely left me with scars, it was always the nickel sized cystic ones that scarred badly.

I've had acne all my life (a lot less as an adult).

I've always been bothered by pimples. They just draw my attention and I have to lance them to let them drain. Often, the pressure they create in the skin is uncomfortable...which is why I can't leave them alone.

i'm 38 years old and still get blackheads and some occasional spots (usually have one or two), which i do find painful as well. i always squeeze them as they really bother me. i take antibiotics every so often if it gets bad. i guess i just have oily skin and hair.

i find it helps to wash my towels and pillowcases often (with unscented detergent to prevent further irritation), as they can harbour bacteria.

My acne is rarely ever painful. I get constant breakouts on the sides of my face and chin. It's made much, much worse by the fact that I have dermatillomania - compulsive skin-picking. To say that I have a pizza face would be an understatement.
