I have been watching some videos on youtube and they got me to thinking we should have a great autism vissual experiment. I have seen 2 videos :through the eyes of autism,"" So I was thinking we should take a camera for a day and hour 20 mintues and record using the camera like our eyes and upload a few minutes of it onto youtube and see if maybe we look at simular things? not sure how to explain it.

Sounds neat. Of course, you'd have to correct for the videotaper's age, sex, gender, ethnicity, nationality, occupation, favorite foods...

And of course, I spend a lot of time not looking at anything (I'm looking at stuff in my head). I wonder if you could actually get 20 straight minutes of me looking at stuff. What about people who are more focused on other senses?

And if I were looking through a camera, stuff would look different, skewing my results.

And we'd need some NTs for comparison.

And people might "cheat" to make themselves look better (like, shift the camera away from the pictures of naked girls while still looking at it). They might even do so unconsciously.

And the camera itself would alter others' reactions, in turn altering the behavior of the person doing the taping.

Better would be a hidden camera, to be worn 24/7 until the person taping gets used to its presence (and can no longer stand to stifle normal behavior).

Of course, it wouldn't follow the way someone's eyes track-- for instance, looking up, and moving your eyes down to watch something in front of you (but the camera would point at the ceiling).

(I love contributing to still-image projects like this).

I don't think I would even recognise my own avatars.... I changed them a little too much for the past couple of months.

This sounds like an intersting project, but I think the presence of a camera could effect the person behind it on a subconscious level.
On a side note: I was an avid photographer as a child (nice way of saying that I owned a camera and liked to take pictures) and when I look at them in retrospect theres certainly something 'aspie' about them. I.e Only about 5-10% of them are of other people. Also I used to take screenshots back when I used to play mmos - basicly I could have been diagnosed based on those screenshots alone

Any further ideas on this? For instance, is there a good date that should be recorded?

I think 10 minutes is plenty. I don't know much about Youtube - how are the videos to be linked together? Do you set up some kind of channel, or do you make your own website, or post the links here?

You should set some guidelines and some rules - guidelines on what kind of material is preferred (uncut video, animation, commentary, text, graphic art) and possibly rules on decency etc.

Dates: 10-10-10 is nice, but I imagine other people will be using that too (not that it matters); Leo Kanner's birthday on 13 June; Hans Asperger's birthday on 18 February. I prefer the magic number to the people dates.

I'm working on this right now! [Although doing the math is a lot harder than I thought it would be. ]

Imagine the following steps:
1) Take video of social conversations you have throughout the day using a spy-cam.
2) Upload the video to here. We vote on what the other person's tone/affect/body language meant and how you should have responded to them.
3) Create a software algorithm trained against the video input and computing the agreed-upon output within 800 milliseconds.
4) Add the algorithm to the spy-cam for real-time processing, and add an ear phone jack to listen for the computed output.
5) Be cool beans.

Easier written than done, of course. But if anybody wants to start on the first 2 steps, I'm game!
