Attention Deficit Disorder

Excessive and chronic inability to manage time effectively may be a result of Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD). Diagnostic criteria include: A sense of underachievement, difficulty getting organized, trouble getting started, many projects going simultaneously and trouble with follow-through.[6]

Prefrontal cortex: The prefrontal cortex is the most evolved part of the brain. It controls the functions of attention span, impulse control, organization, learning from experience and self-monitoring, among others...

Wow! Nice post! Anyone who hasn't looked into this stuff should.

I would like to add a quick thought. I hope it doesn't hijack the thread, because that isn't my intention.

Believe it or not, looking into the principles in the OP's post is part of what eventually led me to becoming so certain I'm on the spectrum.

I've actually adopted a lot of that stuff, beginning about ten years ago, and my life improved dramatically. Yet, there still seems to be invisible walls I couldn't get past. Autism explains why. Now, I'm hoping that learning and applying any new adaptations I can pick up, based on knowing why those invisible walls are there, combined with the principles in the OP's post will eventually lead to some even bigger and better improvements.

Getting organized for me though, did become a bit too much of an obsession. Many of the organizational stuff you buy in stores simply didn't work for me because of the way I think. Eventually, I learned that for me KISS (Keep it simple stupid) ended up working best. I have a simple list of priorities in my head now, based on what's most important to me. I don't need to write it down, because I keep it as simple and easy to remember as possible. That, and a calendar on my computer is enough for me now. I can get so easily wrapped up in perfecting systems I spend too much time organizing and reorganizing the information about what needs to be done, and getting basically nothing done.
