In the autism community, we all know who she is. Probably 75%. Maybe more, I am not sure.
But when it comes to how many people in the overall population of the world know who she is, it is a very, very small percentage. I do not blame them for not knowing who she is.

At an IEP meeting for my AS son a few years ago, the school principal, teacher, special ed teacher and the school psychologist had never heard of her. I brought her up and got blank looks. Only the speech pathologist knew who I was talking about.

She isn't as famous as the autism community claims her to be.

I was just thinking educators planning an IEP for a child with Asperger's would have been a bit more familiar. I wouldn't have been surprised by the average person on the street.

It only surprised me that people watching the Emmys might not have made a guess when the cameras were on her during the presentations of the awards for the movie about her...but maybe that was expecting too much.

Btw, I first read about her in a Psychology textbook about 10 years ago.

Hey thanks for posting that link! :) I cried when I saw it but then again, I'm kinda a sap (even for being on the spectrum), and yeah.

No, I think only people in select fields know of her such as in the autism field (and even then, you get people that know about her & people that don't) and then of course, in the livestock field. Even a lot of people at CSU don't know who she is right off the bat.

Something that bugged me related to this.........I got an email today from an animal rights group I'm involved with where they talked about the HBO movie winning some Emmys. But, all they talked about related to the movie was Temple's love for animals, and how she came up with a more humane alternative to animal slaughter. Not once was her autism advocating mentioned in this email. Sure, it was an animal rights group I got the email from but sheesh.
