Precedent for Aspie-only bars
I don't know about anyone else, but I'm really liking this whole thing more and more as ideas keep rolling.
Rocky good one with the Bluetooth.
Thanks!
@ StuartN- I looked at the site via the link. Looks like it, except the GPS part. It would all be local to the AspieBar. One alternative to Bluetooth would be a chatroom specific to the AspieBar via WiFi.

^ ^ Yeh, I think that's more functional than the Bluetooth. I guess.
I also liked the service window - no talking to bar staff - Gold
and the idea of a socialising area sounds relieving, like at least then you wouldn't have to feel the pressure in any other areas of the AspieBar

I used to go to a gay bar with friends as it was opposite our college building and had a nice relaxed feel. I never got come on to though i did have nice chats with people there. There were a lot of straight people and straight couples who went there in the evenings to have a drink and music without "pulling". I think they could enforce it though, they could just guess which ones are regulars or look sincere, which ones look like straight guys come to start a fight, it cant be too hard to see with sense. I wouldnt ban NTs from an aspie bar as long as they wanted the Aspie feel and not social busy-ness.
Oh, you mean you´re not supposed to read books in public places? I do this all the time.
I seriously like the idea of having something like a small library; little bookshelves here and there, with interesting or hard to find books- (I´ve often seen shelves and books in quaint bars or restaurants, but that was part of the decor; in this case, it doesn´t need to be just the decor, but people can read the books while they´re in the bar). And what better "conversation opener" than to actually find someone, maybe, who has read the same book as you, or has the same special interest as you?
Needless to say, the bar should have comfortable, easy on the eyes lighting. And a nice atmosphere (I like nice atmospheres, with candles). And how about some gluten free, casein free snacks- so I can donate my recipes and get rich?

How would one prove their neurological status? They should have to pass the AQ test or something. Then the self-diagnosed people won't be left out with their lack of official diagnosis.
Sweet! I want one of these over here!!
Low lights...individual cubicles...specially designated social areas....Sounds sweet to me.

Since aspies are genetically predisposed to having a obsession /addiction with gaming I can assure you there would be a disportionately high number of us here :
www.manabar.com.au
Apparently other bar managers have told the owner that they'd kill for his clientele their non boorish , non violent and not overly drunken! I went once wont go again I ended up feeling like a creepy old man surrounded by children, their aren't to many 35 + year old gamers out their , sadly back in the day when gaming was seriously uncool their where not to many 15 year old gamers ethier .
In regards to a bar library the Indooroopilly library if I recall correctly (I live in Kangaroo Point so never go that way except for the river ride) you can order from a nearby restaurant and they deliver the meal to you ! Not sure if that service is still available these days and not even sure if you can drink alcohol , still it would be nice if you could.
The iPhone app Foursquare http://foursquare.com/ forms deals with venues like bars, so that somebody (the first one in?) gets appointed "Mayor" and receives discounts for encouraging friends to come to the same venue.
Personally, if there was some discrete logo for independent autistic adults (I don't knowingly know anyone else with autism), then I might wear it on a tie-pin or badge. I would prefer that to a phone application.

I just have to say, this might be the first time I've seen a 2 and a half year old thread brought back from the dead, and the first reply to the new post is from the same poster as the first reply to the OP years prior.

I find it depressing but not particularly surprising that only about two people on this thread seemed uneasy about deliberately discluding "NT's" from entry to the bar. Set up "Aspie" rules & an "Aspie" friendly atmosphere by all means, but anyone should be allowed entry so long as they follow the rules & behave appropriately. Honestly, I get wrongfully accused left right and center of elitism when casual discrimination and ingroup/out-group thinking proliferates this site. Reading this kind of stuff just annoys me. It's possible to develop a positive autism community without engaging in elitist & discriminatory behaviour.

of note to the OP,not everyone on the spectrum whoud go to a bar is an aspie, even the profoundly autistic residents am living with go to bars/pubs every week.
we got a gamer bar in manchester called the kyoto lounge, its got every semi oldskool and modern console possible available for people to sit down with and play on, its also got a PC lounge to for us PC gamers, and a room with a three dimensional tv where they do film nights.
link- http://kyotolounge.com/
we [this residential facility] is trying to sort out some accomodations and a private day just for autistic people to use it,we only found out about the lounge from a aspie WP member/staff of mine who loves her bars [shes not an alchie incase she thinks am calling her that] and mentioned it the other week how amazing it was.
aparently theres rarely anyone in it earlier on,bro in law is a right geek but slagged the place off just because there was hardly anyone in it.

I would still feel just as shy going into an Aspie bar as I would any regular bar.
A load of Aspies aren't going to be wandering around like zombies or sitting in silence looking at each other. There will most probably be hyper/extroverted ones there who get social attention drawn to them, making the quiet shy ones like myself feel ignored. I'm so shy that I'm even too shy to go up to other shy people, because I look awkward.
So wherever I go I will always be shy and feel ostracized. If I met up with a group of Aspies, I'm not going to feel any more popular than if I were in a group of NTs. Jeez, shyness is bloody isolating!
