I only get seemingly ignored when I actually put some effort to say something that's thought-out. How can I tell whether I'm just plain boring, or if they don't want to get the conversation too deep?

Most NT's dont want to get too deep with AS.

Hell, I'm AS and I dont want to go too deep with AS people

It would be like a room full of people talking at each other

I usually keep my deep thoughts to myself, storing them up to share with people I know I can share them with. Your average NT conversation is like skimming stones, fast and only superficially touching the water, where we seem to want to go deep sea diving in a big clunky divers suit.

I agree with the other posters, although it does depend on the situation. At work a couple of times I was admonished when asked for my thoughts on a subject - "Not too much detail".
I've found journalling to be effective for putting down my deeper thoughts on life, etc, it does help me sort out these thoughts and keeps me from boring others with them, sometimes it helps me to be able to edit them so that I communicate better with others.
