I have an unusual problem with my concentration: I can't start concentrating on anything; my mind wanders. However, five minutes later, if the thing I'm trying to concentrate on is my special interest, I get hooked and can work for hours. However, getting to start concentrating is greatly difficult: I plan to sit down on the computer and start programming, however, two hours later, I find myself on a web safari. Does anyone else has this problem? Does anyone know how to solve something like this?

You, too? I've been struggling with this for so long without results!

I can relate to this a lot. I have great difficulties with concentration as long as it doesn't involve my special interests. I always wait until the last minute to do things as well.

I have the same problem when reading (something of interest to me), I often find when reading fairly large articles I start from a couple of paragraphs in so to cut out any boring intros that I may be already fully aware of, or even read each paragraph in reverse order.

When working on my car its only after two wasted hours that i start to get going, by which time im running out of time. Writing is the same. Its frustrating when you just cant get going and when you do get going you cant stop!!

But i will now...

impeachgod: It is called PROCRASTINATION and it is common. You can read whole books about it. Search for procrastination on amazon.com. The books also mention techniques to help you with this.

BTW, I love your nickname.

I have this problem too, although it is anything I enjoy. Even when I try to study, I sometimes find something interesting in a textbook and wander off on that tangent...

I have this too. I mean to do something and think of four more things to do along the way, then forget what the first thing was! Similarly I can get absorbed in the music or the internet for hours.
I can't read a book without skipping forward to bits further on..drives me bonkers 8)

I have this exactly. It is with school work, tests and homework usually. I also have this problem when doing background researches for my stories. It seems as though I must convince my mind that this is one of my interests to get anything done, it never works anyway… I have so many unfinished stories.

I find I do it by way of going off to explore an interesting tangent and never coming back.

It is procrastination dammit. Everyone suffers from procrastination at least sometimes. Some people worse than others, but everyone does it. Some only a little, some a fair bit, some have great trouble with it. It is not some mystery disorder.
