NTs are always miserable from what I've seen, but then so are a lot of Aspies. It depends on the individual's circumstances and can't be determined by neurology.

Both Aspies and NTs have their share of unhappiness, but I think that NTs are better at hiding it. Often they look happy and well-adjusted and I have to remind myself constantly that this is a facade and everyone is dealing with their own issues and problems.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

NT's can be quite skilled at creating and projecting an image.

Don't be fooled by facebook. Anyone can construct a seemingly happy life from images and peppy, pithy little statements.

You don't have to post everything about your life on Facebook. I use my account just to talk to some "friends", post a status when I was asked to (right now, I have to tell everyone that I arrived in England for example), to make private jokes, send photos of place I've visited or to post links but I never feel like complaining about my day and tell how much my life sucks because that's not a good way to feel happier and it's annoying. I have a NT friend who does that everyday, she is "depressed girl" and I really find her profile to be irritating, I do not want people to think that I am very happy or that I am lying but nobody needs to know every single minute of your life or to get the impression that you are totally depressed, some things must remain private.

I would not post photographs of me naked or tell everyone that I was drunk (which cannot happen since I do not drink alcohol but a lot of people do that on facebook) last night, it's silly.

I think that people on Facebook tend either to show how great their life is or to show that their life suks (or both) but they don't tell you everything.

Nope. That's not always the case. Everybody's life is like a roller coaster. It goes up or down every day. NT's can be depressed or cry the same way Auties can. Unless you know them really well, you can't assume that they are happy just cause they look like their happy. It may seem that NT's are happy and Auties are depressed is because Auties are very honest and they show what they really feel and NTs kind of hide it. Since Auties aren't experts in social situations or depicting facial expressions, we can't tell from the outside if the person is happy or not.

I used FB for a while, even had 25 or so "friends" I quit after people started pulling the "NT Disappearing Act" (search it) I felt like an outsider on my own page, so i said "screw it" and deleted my account.

Truth is, i feel like an outider here too. I find it a plus to be an outsider, because the "outsiders" on earth will be the "insiders" in heaven. "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth"

I use Facebook a lot like Twitter in that I use it to post current events, videos I've seen, links to blogs, interesting pages, etc. I rarely post when I'm upset because I tend to be a more closed-off aspie than an open one. I can't hide it well in real life, but I can make the conscious decision not to type it into a status.

I have a number of friends who are on both Facebook and LiveJournal. I know that many of them save their hard stuff for their LJ blogs and generally present a happy face on FB. FB is broad and not really private and not a good place to expose your real feelings.

I'm autistic, and I'm happy most of the time. :)

I use Facebook to keep up on my daughter, who lives at the other end of the country. I haven't posted anything on my page yet....

While this may be true, I haven't had the "pretty little facade" problem on my Facebook. It might be because I use the chat feature more than anything (that which is private is more likely to be true), but most of the people I know, even the NTs, are pretty honest about things.

No, and no.

Also, no idea what the topic has to do with anything, but wrongplanet is a support forum. Facebook is a social networking site. Very different.

This. It doesn't have to be a support forum, but it's a forum. Forums are not in the same category as Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc...

As for the happiness and unhappiness thing, also false. One thing to keep in mind is that social networking sites are... well, social networking sites. NT's are more social - they get some of their happiness from those places more often, if you think about it. But I've seen my share of NT's there who are depressed or who I could assume have depression. I have 225-ish friends, so others do that. Hell, I even saw on an acquaintance (who I do know but is not added as a friend, explaining the inaction) post, that he made a status a while ago saying "I want to die." I mean, NT's do get depressed, just as much.

I know a few friends my age who also have depression, and they're NT - they have no trouble communicating, but I do. We're friends, but I'm not NT so I don't communicate as well as them, so that's MY reason for getting depressed, but others can have issues with family. One of my "friends" on facebook has some similar issue with her family and I could guess she either has depression or will have it in the future. I do envy the fact that she still has 1,000+ facebook friends and many close friends to rely on, though. ALSO: another thing to keep in mind is that being social presents other opportunities to get depressed. Relationship abuse, anyone? NT's experience more relationships (romantic-type) than people with AS, from my understanding, so there you go.

+1. That's often their best method of hiding things.
