Hi everybody,

I have some good news I would like to share.

I started my study Bachelor of Social Work three weeks ago and struggled with the point if I should reveal my autism to my group or not. While in a class where you have to present yourself, I choose to do so. I empathized my positive points in the case of autism (systematics and problem solving), gave a smaller portion of the time to things I run into (blocking out signals of unrests from other individuals and losing overview when tired).

Shock and awe (no not the bombing strategy  ) was the first thing that went through the class, but they accepted it! In fact everybody wants to work with me now because I can do something they cannot do better or have a lot of trouble with.

In my observation it is a little give and take with working in groups. I compensate them, they compensate me.

Cheers! :drunken:,
Wallourdes

I agree with you 100%. I have always stated my beliefs that autism has gifts that if we accept them and nurture them, they can do amazing things for us. Autism has given me the gift of music. I am happy that you embrace a similar attitude. And like you, I tell people as situations find it appropriate, that I have Asperger's.
