Its only second week of classes and I'm very lonely. This is the first year that I'm not living in residence so there are no events whatsoever.

Are there no clubs and societies that you could join? There must be things going on outwith the residences, but it does mean that you'll have to seek them out.

I'm sorry you're feeling so lonely. :(

Have you thought of joining a club? Organized, predictable socialization that your are obligated to show up for weekly or monthly. If you can find one related to an obsession, all the better.

I am partial to project based clubs because when you cannot deal with other people, it's acceptable to just work alone and still contribute to the project as a whole. One idea if you are at Waterloo there is a project called midnight sun, they design and build a solar powered car to race in the desert of Australia.

We were competitors, so I do not know them, but most people in the race seem like good people.

Almost all the people I know have been a result of some form of routine like this.

There is an age difference, but here goes. When my son was uncomfortably aware of being excluded by some of his peers who might have been friends, I suggested - based on my own experience - that he announce the start of his own group.

If you play Scrabble in Finnish, say, or are into No plays, set up a rendezvous, post notices around campus or in the student newspaper if any, and wait. May take a few tries, but if there are others around they will eventually come out to find you.

I have a lot of acquaintances but no friends. Rather frustrating to have a lot of people to talk to but no one to REALLY talk to.

What is it that you wish to talk about?

Are there any AS groups at the university you can join?

This misdiagnosis caused me significant stress, which lessened upon finding out the truth about myself from my current and past long-term therapists - that I am an anxious and highly sensitive person but do not have an autism spectrum disorder.

My diagnoses - social anxiety disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

I’m no longer involved with the ASD world.

Nothing in particular, but something deeper than sports or other inane stuff. I'm not a fan of therapists, but that might be what I need.
