I have diagnosed with Asperger since I was 12 year old. I'm now attending college at CSCC where I have been having problems with my grades.
My biggest problem is the fact I simply cannot stay focused in class during lectures and doing homework. My brain actually feels like a cable box with the NHL Center Ice being controled by a hockey fanatic. It just won't stay focused. I'm even having problems during labs with groups for some reason, being in a group makes me feel so darn uncomfortable to where it is much harder to do the labs.
I'm majoring in Automotive Service Management. I have strong interest in cars, but even in classes I like, I simply cannot stay focused in both class and in the shop. I really want to be a automotive technician. I read that people with asperger make good automotive techs because they are real good visual thinkers for one.
I just talked to disability services at my college and they are in the process of getting the records of my IEPs from my old school and nerxt friday I have to see a psychoist who will most likely refer me to a specialist to help me.
I was dianosed with ADHD when I was a kid before having Aspergers and read that kids with Asperger were often misdiagnosed with ADHD.
I just also recently got let go from Stalin-Mart er... I mean Walmart. I got enough student loan money to hold on till January but would still like to find a job for 20 hours a week.
Am I alone in this?

Most definitely not alone. I feel EXACTLY the same. I had to take my studies out of the classroom to stay focused. Also so I would not be "numbed out" by all the stuff happening around me.

I may have to leave the course as it seems like there is too much happening at once. The course I am doing is an intensive one year course.

Whjat gets me I had a couple professors told me that I wouldn''t make it as a Auto Tech. I don't think I would be real bad about being a auto tech soon as as I get the hang of it. Problem is the fact I proberly still have ADHD, I keep having to have hard time staying focused.
It isn't that I don't want to be a auto tech, I feel like I'm getting hammered from being in a classroom for 3 hours. If it is ADHD at least I can take stuff to get it under control as much as possible.

Can't predict success here, but - I had a student in my class, some visual disability plus almost certainly on the spectrum - very bright. Came to me, said, if I take the exam with the others in the room I will fail. I let him examine in a separate room, me monitoring both groups, he did well.

Try to see if instructors can arrange less crowd for you.

BUT -

the industry may not go for it. We had a secretary needed to shut the door to get real work done. I supported her, but the others kicked her out.

Good luck.

Its not I can't work with others. I just can't work with a group in just one project. Maybe it is something I can overcome. I don't know. Auto mechaincs usually work independantly or one on one with another employee.

You can do it. My boyfriend is an excellent professional mechanic, and he has a major case of ADHD. Also I'm an ADD Aspie and have done many car repairs.
