After my Mom passed away at over age 90, I had to get rid of a LOT of stuff. All her special vision stuff was a no brainer (to her low vision support group and special friends) so THINGS could be used and appreciated by people who needed it. When I decided to move out of OUR last house, I had to make some hard decisions about what to keep and what to pitch. i had to move or die.
If the contents of your house have usable items that charities would like, just call them and they will come and pick it up. If you are involved in a church perhaps someone there has the time and experience to come and help you.
Rob, it was MY experience that the MORE I gave away, the more I got back in really great karma that helped me on my latest journey. It's been an incredible year for me. I have moved twice, sold a house, bought a house - and lost 50 lbs in the process (or in spite of it). I have a new body, a new house close to everything, a new bunch of friends - a whole new outlook on life.
If i lived near you, i'd come and help you out - that is once I get all my junk organized. UGH I sat in a tiny apt for 10 months waiting for my house deals. But it can be done.....
MY friend Mildred (who just turned 90 - looks and acts 70) told me....
How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time. hope this helps a little 8)

Totally off topic, but I remember there was a bit in African Adventure (or more likely Elephant Adventure) where Hal and Roger eat an elephant (with help.) And I only just realised their surname is Hunt... *groans* I read every single one of those books when I was a kid, and didn't realise that their surname is a punne or play on words.

...and I think it's in one of those that they try to track someone who doesn't wear shoes and whose little-toe prints aren't squished together like they are for people who routinely wear shoes. That stuck with me, as I've never liked wearing shoes and like prancing around barefoot. :)

*ahem* I digress. Or I'd digress if I was gressing to start with.

My parents and my uncles and my aunt and uncle recently got rid of lot of my grandparents stuff. They went through it all and decided what to keep for themselves and their kids and relatives. Then they had a huge yard sale outside for the whole weekend and sold tons of stuff and had the Salvation Army come and take the rest that didn't sell.

My grandfather passed away in 2007 at the age of 89 and my grandmother lives in the home for elderlies.

My mil died - what - two and a half years ago now, I think.

We moved out or absorbed much of her stuyff almost immediately - the residue though is very slow, and very hard on my wife. She is more motivated to clear trhan I am, but also more bothered by associations.

Thanks for the advice, I still found you :D

As far as donations are concerned, after the amount of time most of those rooms and barn have been closed off but not sealed shut, there really isn't much salvagable enough to make a suitable donation..

Thanks again!

Rob
