interesting question:-

Has anyone seen that tv commercial which features several different kids pondering and saying the word "umm..." one after the other?

For some reason this advert deeply irritates me, not because i've seen it several times but the sounds are off putting, can anyone offer an answer to why this is and does it irritate anyone else?

lol

While I have never seen this ad, and doubt I will...I have seen many comercials that bother me to a level I have to mute, change channel, or otherwise make it go away. Or it really, really, upsets me.

Overstock.com commercials were one of those...ugh.

I have not seen that commercial, but I do remember this radio commercial from 1998 for some investment group. To grab your attention, they would say something, then ding this bell. For some reason that angered me quite a bit. It got to the point where I would dive for the off button on my radio everytime it came on.

I become irritated by several comercials myself... for example, there is a commercial airing regularly now which features a little boy about 6-8 years old spitting at his sister. I find this little boy extremely irritating and find myself either switching the channel completely, turning off the TV, hitting the TV (once... this commerical is that irritating to me), or abandoning TV entirely for a period of time.

Commercials are a huge irritant, which is why I rarely watch TV anymore unless the show I'm watching is A) something they won't show ever again and I forgot to TiVo (FLCL episodes 1 and 2) or B)TiVo'd so I can skip the commercials I hate and watch the ones I like (Starburst Baja California commercials from last summer... fiesta in my mouth... those were excellent... but Domino's Pizza commercials should be banned from TV).

You know what commercials I'm liking nowadays? The "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" commercials. They're pretty funny, very relevant, they're quiet, and they're quite enjoyable because of how calm and genuine they are.

I don't pay attention to commercials. If I'm watching something and commercials come on, I go to the computer and do whatever it is that I am doing at the time. I hate commercials. I don't really care if they are funny, sick, or whatever. They're designed for one purpose, and that is to create wants in the eyes of the unsuspecting watchers. They don't create wants with me, because I pay no attention to them. And for those times that I do watch them, I tend to converse with myself about something or the other, usually stuff that has nothing to do with commercials.

There's one of the greatest things about VCRs. That is, if you record a show, then you can forward through all the stupid commercials! I do that a lot as well, if I record something.

^*takes out VCR, front flap falls off, part of me dies a little inside*

But seriously, I still use my not-really-broken-but-will-be-really-soon VCR to watch old casette tapes.

I use my TiVo that I picked up for cheap (I'm paying 10 bucks a month for the service, sure, but the box itself was only 5 bucks!) for everything else. I like putting the bar on invisible mode and hiding the TiVo, and having my grandpa come over (doesn't really know what TiVo is) and convincing him that I own television by showing him how I can rewind and fast forward the TV with magic.

My grandpa's awesome.
