A doctor with experience in AS said I dont have it, the thing is i see symptoms that match me tho,

I used to not make eye contact without getting the fear feeling
I have lots of anxiety over everything
Im unproductive
Not a "Social Butterfly"
Bad short term sometimes long term memory
Im quiet- kind of lonerish being that I really dont have any friends.

I dont know what to do, im freaking out!

A freind of mine sugggested I might be autistic years ago.

A Doctor told me I dont have AS tho should I stop obsessing over if I have it or not?

What would YOU do in my shoes?

In my opinion, take some of the online tests, answer the questions honestly... and based on the results perhaps get a second opinion..

(Printing out and taking the results with you might be helpful)

That's what I would do...

I wouldnt dismiss one or the other right away if that makes sense. It's really difficult to determine anything just by your list. Here are some other things to consider...

Do you have difficulty determining how to start a conversation or to participate in one in progress?

Do you have narrowed obsessions with anything (movies, tv, animals, etc) to the point that you would rather spend all your time reading up on them?

Do you have difficulty with people who tell you to do something without a step by step understanding as to how to do it?

Does picking up a phone and talking to a stranger make you nervous as heck?

Do you look down alot or have a tendency to wander about awkwardly?

Are you sensitive or anxious in high stimulating situations (crowds, noises) to the point you must escape it or otherwise go crazy?

Are you prone to meltdowns where you have difficulty expressing your frustration by the smallest change in routine or your own set plans?

That's all I got for now.

Based on the short description you've given it sounds more like Social Anxiety... some more info would be helpful.

We (my wife and I) did it backwards--we found out what worked for us (adaptations and so on) and then found out there is a name for what I had. I'd suggest experimenting with different adaptations and see what helps you, and worry about the exact name later. Unless you want to try treating your condition with drugs, such as SSRIs, in which case you need to see someone qualified to prescribe them.

Yeah, I think you're not really describing AS there; it's more like social anxiety disorder... Unless there's more to it than that, the doctor may well be right. If he's a qualified doctor who made a reasonably thorough evaluation, I'd assume he's correct and try checking out the social anxiety angle.

Did this Dr. administer ANY actual psychological tests? Did you receive an IQ test? How about an ADOS (Autism Diagnostic Observational Schedule) test? Have you ever taken an AQ test?

If none of the above....then I really don't see how he can rule out AS or another ASD/PDD.

It's very possible you would not meet the diagnostic criteria for AS, but you may be PDD-NOS or perhaps you have NLD/NVLD.

Sounds like you may have severe social anxiety, coupled with depression maybe.

Or you might meet the criteria for one of "odd/eccentric" personality disorders like schizoid or schizotypal. Somehow i'm guessing schizotypal might be more likely in your case.

Nonetheless....even licensed psychologists (and i'm not one) can't make a legitimate dx over the internet, so i'm just speculating here.

Seems like you have something going on, but I just can't tell you what precisely.

I would seek another psychologist if I were you. You might want to get tested. It seems like all this guy did is tell you that you don't have AS and he didn't say anything about what you might have.

Just because someone claims to be an expert on something doesn't make it so. Was this your family doctor or something?

You keep describing social anxiety problems. I'm a bit confused that the doctor didn't point you in that direction instead or to any direction really, or maybe he did. Your posts are always really vague which doesn't even seem very aspie-like, either.

That can help but do go to a professional [clinical psychologist]. However much general practitioners like to think they know, often they fall way short.
