I am new to the idea of having aspergers but can the obsession be a broad and wide reaching topic like the social sciences?

For years I have been obsessed with topics under this banner such as but not limited to, political science, sociology, history, and philosophy (logic, morality, ethics and how they relate to politics.). It is not that I believe a NT cannot hold similar interests, I just believe I drift away from being NT in that I spend entire days researching these interests only taking breaks to use the restroom and to heat up TV dinners when hungry. That and all the other aspie qualifications that I meet.

Music can be a very broad special interest. There are so many bands, soloists and compositions on YouTube. I like to listen to anything from classical music, to rap. I love The Kinks the most, though. I just thought I would add that in.

I used to love sociology. It never became one of my main special interests though. You can have whatever interest you want. What makes it an 'aspie' special interest is your intensity to focus on it, think about it when you're not spending time on it, want to constantly talk to people about it and maybe forget to eat or sleep because you're so into it.

My main special interest is Physics. More quantum physics, astronomy, and theoretical physics like M-theory and Grand Unified Theory.

Mine is a bit broad in itself.

I like video games, comics, and cartoons. I obssessively draw character models for my stories that I write. Sometimes I will design my own videoganes with their own original battle engines and such. I'll playtest these systems inside my own head to work out the kinks.

I think it all began with cartoon characters though. I've been drawing since my hands could grasp a pencil.

As a side interest, I'm veeery into psychology. Despite identifying a great deal with being an Aspie, I think I have a special knack for figuring people out. It's very laboratorial in context, but it works to an extent. I find I'm quite good at picking out the underlying nuances in human nature that most don't seem to notice.

reading "life after life" back in 1975 put me on a life-long course of study concerning metaphysics/after death/before birth studies. other than that, i always have an ear and eye out for anything concerning wurlitzer theatrical pipe organs [the kind at Pizza and Pipes] and anything having to do with the high-fidelity reproduction of recorded sound.

I am very similar to that - as a child, I was obsessed by animals and sciences; since adolescence, by politics/economics/history (I think both my childhood and actual interests can be considered "broad and wide-reaching"; at least, I think that they are mire broad than the intersts of most "normal" people).

My special interest is very wide. It all stems from one interest which is citys though. I used to draw cities, which then sparked my interest in transport, which also sparked my interest in languages. I once created a city, drew a map of it, named it and even created a language for it. Now I prefer to learn REAL languages though but I still have an interest in transport. (hate travelling on it though  )

Me too! Social science classes have always been my best subjects. My favorite subtopics are history, political science, and sociology. I'd also be interested in taking a class on anthropology.
