There are a lot of people I've met or seen on TV who think they're the best disability advocates in the world, because they know a person or two with some sort of problem.
I've heard people literally say "Autistic people all feel like this" or "This is offensive to all autistics, and if they weren't so subnormal, they'd know why", and the worst "You're not on the spectrum, you're talking to me. Autistic people don't talk." And this is from people who claim to be experts because they have a friend or relative with AS or autism.
I don't know if they know this, but they're generalizing a ton. They need to realize that people with disabilities are all individuals. Many of them can talk for themselves and don't need this botched perspective from so-called "advocates."
Sorry this is rambly, I hope there's some meaning to it.
