I wonder how many of us have a social network ID like Facebook, MySpace, etc. If we are the ascocial animals we are considered to be in real life, how social are we on FB, are some of us hooked on it, how often do you sit on it an d for how long, does it improve your relationship with the world?

I deactivated my account because of the triviality of the people I "know" who I became friends with on facebook.

If my horizons were broader perhaps it would be different, but I don't care who went to what party, or "just got back from the gym", what TV show they like, fattening food they just ate or want, or what happened on their farmville.

I posted photography, information on national parks and museums, and a few classical guitar recordings I made and got little to no response. Someone mentions cupcakes or a margarita and 10000 people respond.

Yep, that's the same feeling I get. Got in different clashes withmy own sister and her daughter for ciriticising that and teh poor language they use. They demanded instant apologies. I post my art, videos on autism, petitions, campaings for causes...people ignore it most of the time.

I am actually hooked on FB. I spent three years traveling full-time, so I have friends all over the country, and FB is how we can all keep up with one another. I moved to Michigan this year & really haven't made any real friends here at all, so FB is the only form of socializing with people who love and understand me that I have.

And I'm not gonna lie, I love being able to bypass the small talk by posting a status about something I truly want to discuss & then having a discussion about it.

Also, the creator of FB was an Aspie. How funny is that?

Are you trying to be funny? He was when he created a social networking site, and yes I'm sure he still is.

My facebook friends consist of current and former roommates, a rare friend, a friend of my roommates' . . .

And they mostly post thoughtful statements and scientific or artistic articles.

It's different kinds of communication. I'm not on Facebook (it's all the social stuff I don't care about), but forums & the Internet in general is great.

I have both facebook and myspace. I don't go to them much and I don't do much there. I have blogged at myspace and at facebook I post my photos and have played farmville. I don't write on my wall very much either. I sometimes advertise on there such as autism forums to try and lure more members there. I also posted about a new book I got called "Emails from an ***hole" written by the same author who also runs dontevenreply website. I think his trolling is funny, he messes with people who post ads he finds dumb. My husband thinks it's mean but I don't think it is.

There are even groups there too I occasionally go to. I find it better than myspace. I started to think about deleting it but then I will lose my blogs I have there so I am stuck keeping it unless I copy and paste all of them in my word pad and save and then delete. One of my friends there recently deleted her myspace but she is on facebook where I have her.

I like FB because it fulfills my need for some kind of social contact without the awkwardness of the telephone or face-to-face. I can think about responses (I don't use the Chat feature) and decided if they would be inappropriate or whatever. Mostly my "friends" are people I knew from high school, some of my college classmates and people I knew from the rave scene. Loads of politics and current events. Not a lot of "so and so went to the gym" or pics of drunken escapades. Mostly everyone is too old for that now.

I'll have it open when I'm doing other things or waiting for response. I think it improves my relationship with the world because I'm actually aware of things now whereas before I only played games online and didn't watch much news--I got into kind of a hole--isolated and lonely--while trying to figure out why I was so depressed. Long story, but FB helped reconnect me to the world...

I use it for photos, info, etc on things I am interested in. Also, it is an easier way to contact people on my uni course about work because I know I will get an almost immediate reply.

I am not on any of those sites because I don't have anyone to connect with. It is like MSN, I use it only to ask some advice to my family, so I just have 3 contacts...

First, people with Asperger (unlike "traditional" autism or schizoid PD) are not supposed to be asocial.

However I consider my self asocial and I HAVE a Facebook account... but I rarely use the tool "chat" (the tool in FB who, IMO, more ressembles IRL social interaction). And I spend much time searching for old friends that I lost contact but, after "befriended" them, I talk very litle with them.

I only joined FB recently after a lot of nudging from friends and family. I don't "friend" people who I went to school with or met once in passing, or have not thought about for several years.

I have friends on there who are friends through my hobbies - LARP or WoW, and the one or two special friends I have in the rest of the world. The rest are my family (sister, cousins, etc.) who like to know I'm still alive... :P
