I wonder how many of us have a social network ID like Facebook, MySpace, etc. If we are the ascocial animals we are considered to be in real life, how social are we on FB, are some of us hooked on it, how often do you sit on it an d for how long, does it improve your relationship with the world?
I like FB because it fulfills my need for some kind of social contact without the awkwardness of the telephone or face-to-face. I can think about responses (I don't use the Chat feature) and decided if they would be inappropriate or whatever. Mostly my "friends" are people I knew from high school, some of my college classmates and people I knew from the rave scene. Loads of politics and current events. Not a lot of "so and so went to the gym" or pics of drunken escapades. Mostly everyone is too old for that now.
I'll have it open when I'm doing other things or waiting for response. I think it improves my relationship with the world because I'm actually aware of things now whereas before I only played games online and didn't watch much news--I got into kind of a hole--isolated and lonely--while trying to figure out why I was so depressed. Long story, but FB helped reconnect me to the world...
