Hi, I usually just post in the Parent's Forum but I have question am hoping a larger audience might be able to help me with. My 4 yo son is HFA and last school year he received OT services that were covered by our insurance. We started therapy this school year with the same provider, still under the same insurance and now I have been told that the services won't be covered. The message that the *&($$%@$ insurance rep left on my voicemail Friday afternoon said that due to provisions in the Mental Health Parity Act that went into effect on July 1, 2010, the OT services are only covered in cases of developmental delay. I plan to follow up with the rep as soon as business hours are open in her part of the country but I am wondering if anyone else has run into changes in services that are covered for people who have been diagnosed with autism? I did not think autism was considered by the medical community to be a mental health issue so why would this act apply? Am I wrong about that? Any info any can provide me would be most appreciated!
