HI Everybody,

I have decided to write a book on aspergers. It is going to be a combination of general facts and my own life expeiances living with it. I figured what better way to do research on this subject than to ask the people who have delt with it their entire lives.

If you have any ideas, general thought, or experiences that you would like to share I would be extremly happy to hear from you.

In example, i remember when i was younger not being able to understand sarcasm and most types of humor. Even today I have to pay careful attention to conversations to tell when people are being serious or not. To me, somthing that is "out of this world" is some sort of astronomical body.

P.S. Please don't construe from my erlier wording that I think AS is always bad of impairing. I love the fact that I can listen to the fans in my computer and know its exact temp. by their change in pitch.

Whenever I hear that phrase, all I can think of is this show from the early 80's about a girl who's father was an alien who spoke to her through a crystal. I think it was called "out of this world" or something similar.

Anyway, good luck with your book. I am not diagnosed, so I probably should not share my experiences in this case.

LOL, I do the same thing.

Anyway, I've been preparing an autobiography of my own as relates to my experiences with AS. I'll share...

Sometime in early 1983, my parents had put me into daycare since my ways at home were starting to get to them, especially my mom. My placement into daycare was my first exposure to other children my age. My parents had warned the daycare of my personality, and they took it in stride. The early days of day care I can remember, but not really anything specific. In June of 1983, an event happened one morning where I first realized that I was different than the other kids in daycare. We had several large tricycles that the kids would always scramble for. Asking one kid who had a trike to give it up was an impossible task; they would simply scream “no” to you at the top of their lungs. I, on the other hand, was different in my response, instead of screaming at the kid; I would politely respond to them that they could have it when they were done. And if I recall correctly, a few times when I did get done with a trike, I would seek out that person to give it to them, probably hoping they would return the favor (which they never did). I can also remember having a conversation with myself, where I scolded myself for being so nice to the other kid as I realized it set me apart from them.

In first grade I had my first introduction to the 16mm film projector. I use to love watching the machine rewind the film, and would do so to point of being yelled at my teacher for turning around during class time, or not going out for recess so I could watch the machine rewind the film. Keeping on the subject of spinning things, in early 1987, after we had gotten some snow on the ground and the driveway at school had been packed down with snow, a favorite activity of mine was to stay outside after being dropped off to school, and watching cars spin their tires as they left after dropping their kids off. I would do this past the warning bell, and to the point of physically being five, or ten minutes late for the start of class. As a result I would get yelled at some more.

One afternoon we all took a field trip to WCUB radio, which was just north of town. One of the kids got to read off a mock weather forecast into a microphone. I got upset since the forecast he ad-libbed was not the proper weather forecast for that afternoon.

In the spring of 1991, our class, in order to teach us about money, instituted a class “currency” called “bread”. This confused me since I didn’t understand how someone could name a currency after an edible product. In May 1991, we had a carnival in the gym where we could spend our hard earned “bread” and play games with it. During the carnival, it began to pour rain outside. I could hear the rain on the gym room, and even though we weren’t allowed to leave the gym, I made up the excuse that I needed to go to the bathroom in the worst way just so I could get a glimpse of the rain from a door that led outside.
