Children with Asperger's are seen as odd by others, can be misunderstood and have difficulty interacting with parents. I wrote an article that offers parents behavior interventions to assist children with Asperger's Disorder.

You can read it at

Um... Well, with all due respect, it really doesn't seem like this is anything more than what you would do for a typical child.

In reading this article I felt like it was written by someone who didn't have AS themself and wasn't too familiar with our difficulties. It appeared to be suggesting that AS children's difficulties could be overcome with a little bit of encouragement and ignoring their bad behaviors.

What about behavior strategies for the bullies and so-called normal kids that treat the kid with AS like crap?

Not to mention the fact that extinction only works when you pair it with actively teaching a child the appropriate alternate behavior.

Ignoring behavior won't work. They'll just keep on stamping and stamping their feet.

Yeah, we're pretty comfortable with repetitive behaviors. They're kind of our specialty.
