Upon the time of your 'official' diagnosis (or equivalent) of AS(D), can you remember one who was especially nice? I know, peculiar question. It's just that last night I vividly recalled my favourite teacher (1st grade) - she was pretty with dark brown hair and eyes, tan skin. Mildly obsessed with Winnie the Pooh. But she liked me, she liked me best.

Around when I was diagnosed I was cutting & pasting excessively, clipping-out pictures from magazines, newspaper, etc and pasting onto huge sheets of newsprint my father gave me. But to the exclusion of all else; cutting & pasting for hour upon hour. My father said he thought I was trying to communicate, plus I was not speaking much at all. The scissors abraded my hand badly and then the red-streak of blood poisoning to my elbow - could have lost my right arm in hospital. I was diagnosed at the hospital...and my scissor were taken away.

Anyway, back to premise: I had bandages on my hand, of course, but banadages were kept on so my hand would rest. My teacher had given us a colouring assignment and I layered with crayon, darker and darker with more colour. I remember crying, hard, because I wanted my picture complete and perfect, and I was going to give it to her. Then my hand hurt so badly I could not stop crying.

She told me I did not have to colour that whole part and it looked great 'as is' and she hung it up on the wall. Isn't she the best teacher ever?

This is not a difficult post to answer as, I'm not that great at words but, I'll give it 110%..
I feel that the individual whom was a former therapist of mine that had worked wtith many other Aspie clients helped me to relaise that having AS does not mean that I'm neither stupid nor dumb by any means. In fact, she had been a teacher whom had once worked with student with various types of learning difficulties and gained a great insight into trying to not only instruct but, teach students regardless of his/her learning form.. That person is part of my memory..

Being as you mentioned a teacher I'm fixed on a math teacher I had when I was 11. He would on occasion split the class in two groups and have them race against each other to finish a problem on the board. I wasn't quick at all and I remember him asking me if I would like to come up take score. Thank you Mr. Grady for understanding.
