so i frequent this bar for the karaoke usually weekly with some friends and there are always regulars there, including one what i believe to be autistic man. he is there every week always alone and always being mocked. there are even several youtube videos of him for people to laugh at! every week i see him in some horrible situation where he is being made fun of and doesn't notice. for example some young pretty mean girls were pretending to flirt with him and even taking pictures with him to be laughed at. he is always trying to talk to people who don't want him around e.t.c .
it is painful to watch him get made fun of on the weekly but its not my place to say anything to him :(

even the karaoke leader makes fun of him he also sings terribly and dances and goes by the name "timmylicious" and then the girls yell "timmay!"

it is soooo bad!

GO ON YOUTUBE AND LOOK UP TIMMY SHIMMY THATS HIM! BELIEVE IT! so any advice on what to do would be appreciated

Why don't you kick those people in the balls? Yes, even the women. If someone is being made fun of and you have the decency to feel sorry for them (and not join in) then you should be the one to stop it.
Where is this bar? I will go down there myself and kick some ass.

i am going to take all of your advice collectively and be nice but not confront anybody. i just hate to see the girls tell him to go away at the end of the night because he really thinks he might go home with them. it's cringeworthy... also you guys are right in that i can't even be sure he's autistic. there are plenty of nts with zero social skills... as long as he's having fun it's all good :)

I'm sorry but when NTs know about someone's developmental disability and keep mocking them to their face.....it really bugs me when they say that we are the ones who lack empathy

Maybe I'm taking the title too literally, but how is he embarrassing himself? From your description it doesn't sound like he is feeling embarrassed as a result of any of this.

This is still terrible. When I first started reading this I thought it was just going to say that basically people were teasing him, which I'd have no problem with. If they were treating him like any other person but making fun of things about him that would just be treating him equally. It sounds like he's way more severe than I am, but personally I wouldn't want people to hold back in laughing at any of my quirks if they knew I had AS. I'd find that kind of special treatment patronizing. No reason to treat any weird thing about me differently just because it has a label attached to it. Part of why I never tell anyone other than the amount of stereotypes and stigmatization I'd be exposing myself too.

But I digress it's clear from your description that this isn't friendly teasing.

But I have an idea.

Actually bring in a group of you and your friends to chat with him, introduce yourselves, and try to hang out with him. You know like regular people. Buy rounds of shots, beer. Maybe invite him to things outside of the bar. Set an example for the rest of the bar to accept him as just another human being. While you're talking to him if you can get it in somehow you should let him know what the other bar patrons are up to.

EDIT: And why shouldn't he be able to go home with a girl once in a while. Bring some open-minded women in your group of friends. Not saying anything has to happen, but just to give him a chance.

He doesn't seem autistic. Look at his body language and facial expressions. I don't claim to understand them, but there's clearly a lot going on.

It still reminded me of the real Timmy in South Park.

Don't know what's going on there however I just wanted to say I dislike people who mock others for their own amusement. What can I say, I lack a sense of humour in that way.

If he's just having fun...meh let him enjoy himself.
