I currently work in a job where people are always spelling their name to me. I just cannot process what they are saying and it is like letters have no meaning to me. I can’t hold any letters in my working memory. I have to ask people their date of birth, or another identifying number to process what I need to. I can hold the numbers longer in my working memory also. (Still not as long as I’d like). Does anyone else find that letters are hard to process and numbers are easier?

I can't say that numbers are easier for me, but I recognize what you are saying about not being able to hold letters (or numbers) in working memory.

If people tell me a phone number, I invariably have to ask them to repeat it slowly. I can usually remember the first three digits but completely lose everything as the numbers pile up. The same goes for spelling things out. I'm like a kid. If someone wants to keep me from knowing what they are talking about, all they have to do is spell it out rather than saying the words.

Numbers make more sense to me, as well. I'm not geat with numbers, but I think in numbers and years. That will help me out with my budget and than eventually Weight Watchers when I can afford it half way through the year.

Numbers are far easier for me to work with than letters. I have memories of working with numbers at two years old, far beyond what I was doing with language at the time.
