I'd always coming up with my checking account what I plan to spend etc. almost daily. My older sister said why is it all you talk about is your finances I said I didn't know. I mention I hoped Law School goes well (She plans on attending in about 2 years) and she can get loans she said ya. While she has more of a concept of money mortgage/car etc. I TRY not to throw it away and PLAN what I am going to buy usually most of the time anyway. I was curious if others Aspies had a special interest in there finances. :-) Thanks.

I do this periodically. I usually start with how many hours I think I'll work this week, then how much $ that will come to. Then, how much after tax, and how much each week if I work the same, and how much per month and per year. Then I deduct rent, and think about what I eat and how much each item costs and what that'll be weekly, monthly. Next is student loans, discretionary spending, think about necessities, toothpaste, soap, toilet paper whatever. It goes on and on, how much to save to go back to school, (classes, textbooks, bus fare) save for a car etc.,etc.

This is all done on paper by the way and I fill at least a whole page front and back with furiously scribbled multiplications. It also usually brings me to the conclusion that I need to make more money. But...

Then I think what if I get that raise, a quarter? 50 cents? a dollar?! !! I'll make this much more per shift, thats this much per week, month etc! I'll be rich!! I'll be sitting on a yacht in the Caribbean shouting "BUY!, SELL!" into a cell phone. LOL

Yes... I took that special interest to a higher level and made it my career to do other people's finances as a financial planner for several years. I even started a non-profit company that helped low-income people with their finances. Now I just do specialized data for a financial company because I wasn't very good at sales (go figure!), but yes... take it and run with it, if you can. It can be a very lucrative career if you can get into an area of the industry that suits your skill set and specialize.

When I was a child, I didn't like the toys, but I used to steal some tax forms (and other forms too) from the office and I filled them. And I loved to make the lists of things, money, everything. I did it all in very formal way and adults laughed at me and I they called me Little Accountant.

I'm less concerned about money now, but in my 20s and 30s I was very obsessive about charting income vs. expenditures etc. Most of my work doesn't require spreadsheets, but I still like tracking data in them.

I'd say I do, but I'm an accountant, so you'd hope so!
