I used to have an obsession with burps when I was a child, and wasn't embarrassed to let people know. But if I still had that obsession now, I would be embarrassed.

Luckily I grew out of the obsession around the age of 14, but my mum pointed out that having a humourous obsession with burps is typical in most children. She said that when she was a child her and her friend used to drink loads of water to make themselves burp (they couldn't afford fizzy drink), and she said they done it for hours and it was great fun to them.

I've even seen children on Youtube (mostly teenagers actually) who sit there for ages trying to do burps, even on their own. And you'll be surprised how many videos there are of people doing that - it's so stupid really.

mmm a bit.... I love foreign cultures, religion, and languages. I love to talk with foreign people... and around here people think that is odd (I live in the backwoods in Southern, USA.) So i don't get to talk about that much with people.

Also I love learning about the holocaust and Nazi Germany..

I usually stay silent in conversations until someone mentions something i know about. Then i will start spouting information.... then they change the topic.. and i keep on spouting information....
that is embarrasssssiinng

Kinda of. It's hard to bring up the issue of penis size. It's a bit easier to talk about strength training, but not much especially as I've gotten older.

I've always been embarrassed about my obsessions and still to this day keep them to myself. The exception would be if it's something more socially acceptable like digital painting, then I'll talk to other people who are into it.

Let seee...

I have an obsession with Pig Cops (a Duke Nukem enemy) that I don't dare talk about with other people too long, lest they think I'm odd...
And some strange evil part of me wants to make bad pig puns at the police academy, but fortunately I don't see myself giving into that 'urge.' I had to try not to slip up and say I got a little 'lardy' (when one of the instructors said I needed to lose some weight) as that wouldn't go over so well.

Another one is Darth Maul. I love Darth Maul, but I get embarrassed talking about him outside of a Star Wars forum. So I only try to make comments about him whenever Star Wars is mentioned, and talking about him would likely be relevent.

And the last one is obesity. I'd love to ask heavy people about how they gained weight and what it feels like now, and how much they weigh currently. But I know not to ask that... :?

It depends on the obsession. Unfortunately I have several, and it frustrates me to no end that I don't have enough time in a typical day to fulfill each and every one of them. I'm perfectly okay talking about some of them, while I would be red-faced for months if anyone found out about others. I won't list them, of course. :) - LJS

Yes, I am embarassed by my obsession with rabbits. I try not to talk about it so people won't think I am a weirdo. I tend to go on and on about my rabbit.

I'm not embarrassed by any of my obsessions, but I am embarrassed about the extent of the fixation. The fact that I have special interests in the first place embarrasses me, I wouldn't mind if my interests were varied and pursued at a normal rate, and my favourite interests I focused on slightly more. Just enough for them to be passions but not enough for them to be at aspie level.
But obviously that would never happen. I just need to hear the word evolution or chimpanzee uttered from across the room and I'm like "what?? what?? :o"
Some of my past obsessions have been embarrassing though, a few years ago I had an obsession with the band tatu.

Actually, I am embarrassed by all my obsessions so I try to hide them from the general public.
Not that they are so horrible but I don't know anyone else who is interested, for an example, in forensics or British sci-fi, or tarantulas, or clinical psychology, or....(the list goes on forever).
And I won't ever meet a person who knows or wants to learn Klingon so I try not to talk about it

I'm a freak....

When I was a kid, it was anything science. Everyone thought it was cute... Then it got weirder when it transformed into Birds...... I tried to make school projects about birds and I carried around a bird book with me in school. Though I read other field guides too like plants and mammals. In senior high, it was still birds, but then I got into Pokemon. That one was scary...... even my thoughts were mostly Pokemon, I don't know how I got good grades. Then in college birds and nature still there, but I ditched Pokemon for Sonic the Hedgehog. Then later on when I had a complete mental breakdown at the same time period that I learned about autism spectrum.... I became obsessed with asperger's and other mental health issues.

Nowadays, the mental health one takes up the majority of my time sadly. Birds and Sonic and now about equal. I also have an interest in religious controversies. Oh, and there were a few minor ones along away, like sort bursts when I got totally obsessed with the New Age.

And yes, I'm embarrassed now. I don't want to be made fun of. I have people asking me normal questions like "oh, you have an mp3 player, what kind of music is on it?" I don't like to answer that one because it's full of Sonic-related and Bird-related stuff. I try to stick to birds because that one is the least weird. My apartment is decorated with bird stuff, but there is a Sonic doll looking over it all.
