So I've heard people talk about "rocking" but never saying exactly what the hell rocking actually is?

I get this weird image of a dude sitting on the floor curled up in a ball rolling backwards and forwards.

"Rocking" essentially refers to sex, good sex if you're lucky. Usually more common as "He rocked my world"; i.e. He prompted me to multiple orgasms.

"Headbanging" is the act of moving one's head in a quick, almost violent, manner back and forth, generally to the beat of a metal and/or hard rock song from a group like Def Leppard or Metallica.

Someone posted this video of Bill Gates rocking here before.

But I think standing and rocking by shifting your weight from one foot to the other is another common form.

Yeah I do the foot to foot kind of thing but not because of autism, it's because my ankles hurt.

There are lots of minor variations on the kind where you're sitting too. It can be tiny movements or really long ones. It can be slow or fast. It can be your entire body or just your upper body. It can involve pushing off with feet or arms or neither. It's pretty varied, not as varied as flapping, but still varied.

i don't know what it is called that ultra-orthodox worshippers at the wailing wall do, i.e., vigorous rocking forwards and backwards of their heads/torsos- but i do something similar to that, when i am drowsy or uncomfortable for any reason.

wow, none of my stims cause the women present to have multiple orgasms, even the first one was kind of a surprise, maybe I am doing them wrong.

(sorry, i had to)

Also not so good if staying in an onsite cabin and the bed is bolted to the floor boards.

You just summed it up, only imagine one sitting down or standing up and swaying or rocking back and forth.

Moving the body down and up, forwards and back. Also from side to side. I also rock just my head.
Head banging is finding a nice solid wall and hitting your head against it. I also use my fists against both sides of my head when I get angry.

Have you ever moved a long to music, like rock music or heavier? You move the head up and down and it's optional to move your fringe out of your face. :P
Body rocking is like that but the whole body.

That is referred to in English as "davening" from the Yiddish davnen. Davening refers to both the motion and the act of praying as such.

I've noticed I rock when I'm in pain, but not otherwise
