Me and Dentists!
My Mum and I react to adrenaline. My Mum reacts violently. She was not herself for a good year when she went into some sort of fit on the dentists chair due to adrenaline in the injection.
I get my body shuttinh down and I even feel my breathing slowing and it is all I can do to really concentrate all my abilities to keep breathing.. As I can't move. I can't speak etc... Right at the very time when the dentist starts work on me!
Anyway.
I have had some funny situations at dentists. I was once in England where I had developed an absus overnight while on a little holiday. My Dad drove me (Was when he was alive) some 90 miles to the nearest emergency dentist. A few people were also queueing as they had emergency work as well. The detists had those thin plasterboard walls so everything could be heard. Now I knew the tooth was passed saving. It was a bit of fish that had gone down into it which had set it off, so it had to come out.
Well. I was fighting the effects of the injection (Before I knew it was adrenaline and after the tooth was removed I also had a partial shutdown... So I asked to go on the floor (I was heading to the floor anyway as my body had gone limp!) and I told them "I just need to lie on the floor" and while on the floor I totally shut down.
The dentist then was tryinh to get me to recover. I don't know how long I had shut down for. I don't normally have total shutdowns foe long... I was then coming out of it and trying to get my body to... Well. At first I put my hands on the floor so I could try to push myself up to sit up for a while...
Anyway. I eventually recovered. Now everyone in the waiting room could hear me and the dentist, and my Mum etc (I think she had been called in because I was on the floor).. I went out into the waiting room and there aas hardly anyone left. I think they had heard me and everything going on and chickened out! Oops!! !

Adrenaline is used in all the injections and is used to stop the blood from flowing in the area so the dentist can see to work on your teeth. They don't have injections that do not contain adrenaline, but they do have ones that have very little adrenaline in them. I think they said the least dose they had was 0.2mg or something like that. I remember it had a 0 and a 2... I think she said 0.2.
I panic too much these days though. I didn't used to have so many issues, but I remember in my late teens to early 20's when I had a filling... I also once had a single tooth removed. I used to cycle everywhere as a means of transport, and I found that after having work where they would inject me, that to stop my body from (I use this in a different way to autistic shutdown) shutting down due to the effects of the adrenaline, I would need to quickly get on the bicycle and absolutely belt it. Cruising at 35mph on the flat overtaking the odd car. By doing this, I was able to fight off the effects as I had had an overdose of adrenaline which I had to quickly physically work off. So a few miles of high speed cycling (Which my detist said I should not do after having a tooth removed) was the only way to cope with it. I didn't know it was adrenaline in those days. I only knew I had to absolutely belt it. Fortunately I am like my grandad in that my blood clots straight away if I cut myself. Always have had that. If I have a blood test, (I hate having them!) I know I don't need any cotton wool over it, but they do it anyway. All I see is a tiny dot on the cotton wool as my blood has clotted straight away.

I never knew about the adrenaline. I've never been good when it comes to going to the dentist. The first time ,when I was about 5 ,4-5 people had to hold me down . Due to a mix of bruxism, not going to the dentist, and poor dental hygiene my teeth are crap. I find it hard to open my mouth fully . Jaw has an off and on tendency to make a clicking noise. With the anaesthetic they give I can still feel a grinding sensation .

Earlier on in the year was the first time I was ever knocked out. I have to say that I would ratjer be knocked out any time to have work done. I disn't know anything about it. No unpleasant side effects. Nothing.

In the USA adrenaline is called epinephrine. Both names are correct. But the pain numbing medicine with it is novocaine or one of its variants.
I am sensitive to epinephrine as well. I always remind the dentist, "no epi, please!"

I wonder what it's called here in Australia. The last time I had a filling was in my early 20s, bringing my total number of fillings to three. Not bad for being over 40. The reason for being so fussy with my teeth was because I got braces when I was 25. I had them for two years.
I need to go to the dentist soon. I go every year and they say my teeth are boring because there's nothing wrong. I'd like to keep it that way!

Haha. Of all the things I've heard dentists say, I have never heard them call anyones teeth boring! Haha! That is funny!
