Ideas usually come to me when I'm pacing and I can't write them down. Anyone else experience this?

Yes I do, especially when going for walks. I suppose it's because both sides of the brain are working at once, or so I heard. But many of my great ideas come while I am walking. I do sometimes get to write them down. You just have to repeat them over and over again.

And here I thought the thread was about "thinking on your feet" as in reacting quickly, e.g. "Reporters bombarded him with difficult questions, but Bill was very good at thinking on his feet." :) Probably difficult for most Aspies, although I'm sure there are exceptions there too.

I do tend to pace when thinking, if I'm pondering something specific. Pacing specifically in order to think something over doesn't seem to happen much these days, though it used to. And I find myself pacing when I'm on the phone with someone (if the phone is mobile or cordless, anyhow!).

I can relate to having trouble writing them down, too.. I don't tend to think using language primarily, and some things are difficult to "translate".

Many ideas come to me, when I'm walking to somewhere or pacing around.

I swear the thread title was 'what do you think of your feet'

Sort of. I often do the early parts of writing when I'm in no position to write them down. I then have to hope the ideas will come to me at the exact same time I'm both near a keyboard and have writing skills available. It's a constant, complicated dance.

But not specifically on my feet. When I used to walk better, a friend used to always tell me to lie down with my head propped on something because if I was standing or walking I couldn't understand her.

I do that all the time now. I remember when I was a young teenager I used to be able to just sit and think. I would wait until everybody was asleep and sit in the dark, staring into nowhere, thinking of random things. Now I tend to pace alot. Even in a situation where I can't pace I will stand there staring at nothing in particular bobbing my foot.

Ideas usually come to me two days after they become irrelevant.

I really need to learn to think with a sense of urgency.

EDIT: No, wait, you literally meant that you think on your feet. My bad.

Only when standing up. I couldn't resist that. OK, bad attempt at joke over. As you were.

I have the best ideas in the shower, but they're gone by the time I get out.
