Mundane fixation?

Strange observation from the past. I used to have this really strange fixation with the weather channel when I was about 7 years old. I would watch it for ~1-2 hours at a time (from the best of my recollection). It doesn't make any sense to me but was wondering if others had similar fixations for seemingly mundane things? I don't understand this at all even now.

I used to look at maps of the US, at the age of 10. I wish that it would have never happened. I hated myself for a few years, after that and that phase shut me up, about my special interests in real life.

I recall watching the weather channel. I don't remember if it was a fixation or not. At about 13 I did start to read some about climate/maps, which was related to another interest, that I don't need to get into.

When I was younger than 7 (I know the ages from the house I was living in) I guess I'd get up in the morning and be found to be fixated on golf on the tv. I had no real interest in playing golf or even understanding it but for some reason I watched it. I still hear about this and my family has seemed to have always found it funny.

When I was a child, I liked to read the dictionary for fun. That probably helped build up my large vocabulary.

Encyclopedia, dictionary, and so on. I also had an interest in watching the "Family Feud" game show, even though I am not sure I had any understanding of what was going on in the show at the time. Since about 3rd grade on I also liked the science books about energy and space and other topics most would have no reason to be interested in. These books had lots of big words that even the adults probably wouldn't bother to learn, let alone other children.

I had a strange fixation with an Australian current affairs show when I was younger (forget which age, but it was before 10.) Used to watch it every night.

I had a fixation on the Book of Lists. I read the two volumes my grandmother had over and over.

I'll have to see what the "Book of Lists" is.

This last summer I spent considerable time thinking about, and watching high powered blenders on youtube. I liked side by side comparisons and learning of their features. I liked watching the food being blended up very quickly at high speeds the best. I was fixated on them but I also found it very calming. I still do.

Here's a sample. I never saw a close up slow motion video but I thought it looked cool (I really wish I had found more blender videos like this. Maybe not as close up and with more food. Since finding this I may look up more slow motion videos).

I never did get a blender.

When I was a kid (ages seven to twelve or so) I listened to the BBC World Service twice a day, every day. I was always really excited to hear the latest developments in long-running stories. Even though a lot of serious stuff happened during that time (eg Kosovo, the Afghanistan and Iraq wars), in retrospect I don't think the fact that it was real stuff happening to real people actually sunk in at the time. It was just like a huge novel. I still read the news obsessively, though.

It was just a book of many things, all listed and described. Very little information, but kind of educational.

I also once read all the cards in Trivial Pursuit.
