Hello Friends,

About a year ago, a close friend of mine suggested that I may be "autistic". Since then, I have done lots of research, read messages on this and other forums, read many blogs and have completed a few online tests, which all suggest that I may be an Aspie.

I am an IT professional in my 30s, cultured, well travelled, with a successful yet challenged international career, but have also had a number of personal challenges including but not limited to:

being over analytical and detail focussed
being highly sensitive (HSP)
experiencing periods of slight depression and anxiety
long-term career dissatisfaction
relationship issues
confusion of my sexual preferences
lack of self confidence
being really untidy
procrastination and indecision
victim of school bullying
social awkwardness in certain settings
anti-social / reclusive at times

I have always been told by others around me that I am "different", "unique" and that I take myself and life too seriously. I am far from being your average Aussie bloke! For most of my life, I have felt different from others around me, and over the past 10 years or so, I have felt somewhat "lost" in life... searching for my purpose.

I really detest sport and many forms of popular culture.
I love persuing intellectual interests e.g. watching news and current affairs, exploring my spirituality / eastern culture, being active in community and political organisations, learning about other cultures, enjoying world music, classical, jazz and other esoteric / non-mainstream music etc

In order to understand myself more, and understand more about AS, I would really like to connect with others on this forum (and/or local social / support groups in Melbourne) who may be able to identify with some of my traits and be open to share their experiences of AS

I am also exploring options and seeking recommendations for a psychologist or psychiatrist in Melbourne who specialises in diagnosing AS. Does anyone have any personal recommendations?

Looking forward to connecting and/or meeting with other Aspies!

Sam
