I have read a lot about special interest in AS people. The way my special interest work is I pick up a new one every so often so but the old ones really never go away. So I was wonderng is there a number of special interest people have with AS or is it different person to person?

I acquire new special interests quite often but
then I continue where I left on with some old
interest when I have the time. I have so many
special interests that I have to prioritize. For
example drawing is in top 10.

From what I gather, different from person to person. I hate claiming AS when I don't know for sure, but for me, I have about 3 Special Interests, Birds, Sonic and Asperger's/Mental Health though my old ones have not faded away completely, for example I still like playing Pokemon off and on, which used to be a major obsession with me.

I read somewhere females (like me) might have more special interests than males, but I forgot the source and if it is true.

I had a sole special interest until I was about 12; it hasn't gone away completely, I just do not "obsess" over it as much (nor do I read every book I can get my hands on that is about that subject.) I am more "well-rounded" now, I guess. I still get very interested in things here and there (temporary special interests), but I don't have a complete, sole interest that dominates many of my thoughts, actions, and hobbies.

I am intrested in music, I have an intrest in cannabis and other drugs and I have an intrest in psychology.....those are really the only things that come to mind. Kind of a uselsess group of intrests. I mean I can't play music just listen to it and go to concerts, an intrest in illegal substances does not do a whole lot of good as far as society is concerned but it can be a good topic to read and collect information about. Psychology is somewhat useful but I don't know what I would do with a degree in that......definatly not therapy because i lack the social skills to be much help to anyone. And truth be told I am not horribly passoinate about any of those.

It varies from person to person. I've never had the same special interests for more than a couple of years at most, and the number I have going at once varies. And once I am done with a special interest, I never go back to it. I wish I could, but when an interest loses its "magic" for me, I feel like I can never reclaim it. Kind of like a candle's wick that completely burns out.

I have one special interest that has lasted from about 10 years old until now - so a bit over three decades (gaming), but the form it takes has changed over time. Gaming when I was 10 was mostly paper, pencils, dice, maps, game pieces, and so on - and I don't mean board games like Monopoly, but war games and roleplaying games. But the flaw with these games then was that I couldn't play them alone. The benefit was they came with a lot of pieces (some games I had came with hundreds, even though you'd only use a few at any given time. I'd spend hours stacking and lining them up, and dividing them up by category...more than I actually played the games themselves).

When video games caught up with and surpassed the kind of detail you could get in these games and you could play them alone, I started shifting to them over time. I am still interested in my old wargames and roleplaying games, but I really enjoy computer games a lot more for not needing other people to engage in them. Also, each game can itself be an interest - Mass Effect and Dragon Age are my two most recent. Longer-term games have been Neverwinter Nights and Starfleet Command, both based on games I played the old-fashioned way. Other games that have no specific relation to anything else but are definitely interests are the Elder Scrolls games, Doom, Half-Life/Portal, Freespace, Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft. While my preference is for single-player, probably my longest-term computer game is Warcraft (starting with Warcraft II in the late 90s), and currently World of Warcraft.

... so yeah. Some interests can be long-term and somewhat stable. I also get new ones every so often - this year I've added ADHD, and autism was a kind of interest for the past three years but really became full-blown in the past two months. Thanks to those and my more general interest in mental health, I'm starting to get into neurology and psychology as well. A few years ago social justice became a big interest because of personal investment. Also what got me into gaming was my interest in science fiction and fantasy (which started as an interest in specific books by specific authors or specific television shows and moves, and I expanded only when I wanted to find more books, television shows, and movies that fit those interests).

No matter how many I have, I tend to focus on one at a time. Sometimes I would like to be able to give more attention to two things at once, but engaging in my interests in general is pretty satisfying, even if I am neglecting something I would also like to do (like now).

I was always obsessed with meerkats and Lion King. I was obsessed with manatees in third and fourth grade and that kinda masked the other two but eventualy my meerkat and Lion King special intrests woke up. My special intrests have always been animal related. The content of my special intrests may vary but the theme is always the same. I think I am going to take my meerkat special intrest to the grave.

I noticed that my special interest move between the same genre. For example from the time I was three until about 5 years ago I was completely obsessed with Pro Wrestling. About five years ago I was introduced to MMA and it was like Pro Wrestling never even existed to me. But on the same hand I play with the same GI Joe toys that I played with when I was a kid. I will get obsessed with certain bands like right now I am way into U2 and the Beatles. But my band obsessions always do with Classic Rock or Oldies Rock.

I have a fasination with cars, thats probably my main one. i kno weverything about them and if i see a car i can say aloud the make, model and usually the year that it was made. I also love to play yoville (a game on facebook) it helps me relax and you also get to decorate your house and stuff and trade items and all that. You also have to budget wich i guess will help me in the future just a little although i do realise the real world is nothing like a computer game. I love soccer, i Play it and i wish i could play it all the time i just absoloutly love it! Also when i was younge ri loved barbies and i would still play it all the time if i had someone to play with but my sister is "to grown up and cool for that"

The Kinks and the 60s have always been my special interests, and I will take them to the grave with me at an old age. I will NEVER change with the times. Yes, I'm that stubborn. I think that amplified when Pete Quaife passed away, my dislike for today's culture and my stubborn nature.

Would you think it was weird if I said I liked the Kinks a lot too but I only like 3 or 4 of there songs. I like those songs so much it could make someone elses head explode though.

I seem to have many, and I pick them up randomly and they last randomly. I can drop them like a hat... on second thought, I'm doubting this figure of speech.
