I think I have AS and what is concerning me is to NT people i might come across as ret*d or like a spastic? Even though that is the complete opposite of what i want people to think about me i am unfourtnantly unware of how i behave around others because of my AS.

Is thier anything i can do about this? Is CBT the only option?

CBT is an option, but without an official DX the CBT won't be designed around your needs. You can't go to a professional in CBT and say "I think I have Asperger's" and expect them to just say "OK, let's get to work". They will want something that frames their treatment plan.

Have you ever had CBT before?

Nope.

I had to figure things out on my own. The results have been mixed. I just know that any professional will need an official DX before they do something like that, or they will spend time developing an official DX.

My experience with therapists was that it usually ended with them not knowing WTF was wrong with me. Peeling back the layers during talk therapy revealed a lucid worldview inconsistent with how I presented myself in day to day life.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure you are in the drivers seat. You are doing it for YOUR reasons, not anyone else's. You need to feel like it is taking you in a direction that will result in something better.

You can do CBT yourself. Just buy a book and work on anxiety problems.
It's your anxiety that needs fixing, not being thought of as those two very degrading words.

this is a can of worms for me that i probably should leave closed. I'm curious about what my peers past and present think about me. i reckon they see me as 'a bit slow' and are too polite to say it to my face. over the years i've learnt to ignore these thoughts.

I did recently notice that on audio recordings (band practice) my speech is shockingly slower than I thought. I also noticed the ridiculous tangents i went off on. this surprised me because i thought i'd got the NT impersonation to a tee by now. As for CBT, i'd like to give it a crack - as long as my literal sense of humour doesn't get interfered with

Don't worry what others think of you and live your life. Sorry, I have no other advice to give.

When i hear my voice on recordings i sound normal a little fast and monotone but nothing shockingly out of the ordinary. I have quite a posh english accent.

You can video tape yourself in a room with friends and see how you act. Or, have someone video tape you randomly when you aren't aware of it. It could be a candid camera moment.
That way you can see how you act around others.

My own therapist wants me to work with me on autism symptoms even though I don't have a DX, so I don't know about the comment you need a dx for that.

Your therapist recognizes autistic symptom in you and so thinks you need to work on them. Any therapist is going to need either previous history with a DX or time to do their own evaluation. Many won't even take a previous DX at face value. I'm just saying that going to a therapist and insisting the provide CBT for autism isn't going to have the expected results.
