FYI, no comment from me...

http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/736560

"Mitochondrial dysfunction (MD) is more common in children with autism and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) than the general population, a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis of relevant research confirms.

"Mitochondrial dysfunction 'may play a significant role in contributing to the symptoms of autism and is generally underrecognized in these children,' Daniel A. Rossignol, MD, of the International Child Development Resource Center, Melbourne, Florida, told Medscape Medical News.

"'Testing for mitochondrial dysfunction is available, and early treatment might lead to better long-term developmental outcomes,' said Dr. Rossignol, who coauthored the review with Richard E. Frye, MD, PhD, of the University of Texas in Houston.

"The report was published online January 25 in Molecular Psychiatry."

Unless all autistics have this then its usefulness is limited.

Is this why I've always been interested in the word mitochondrian? really. I do have an uncanny intuition with some things... but prolly not this, too. haha

Come to think of it, Yoda does seem to have some kind of speech impairment...

I've heard that Princess Amygdala may also be involved. Or was that Amidala? I feel so confused.

Its off topic but I think its interesting that you should mention intuition. There is another Aspie who lives near me and for some unknown reason we seem to have an uncanny mental connection with each other, or intuitive sense of what the other is going to do. He often mirrors me strongly like with choice of shirt colors, but there are too many times when this happens when neither of us have seen each other. And there are too many times when I look out my window and just happen to see him passing by right at the moment when I looked out to be explained by random chance alone. As a man of science and engineering, I do not believe in such superstitious hocus pocus, but this seems to be too consistent to be explained by chance alone. Maybe I should run a poll on it here.

For those of you who don't remember it from biology class:
Mitochondria are the little organelles in your cells that function as basically power plants for your cells. If they're messed up, then the embryo can end up anywhere from nonviable to having significant congential problems. There are lots of things that can go wrong, and "mitochondrial disorders" is a big umbrella category for all of them.

That autism is associated with these is no surprise; autism is associated with many other disorders that affect every cell in the body. Down syndrome, for example, which puts an extra chromosome into every cell, is associated with autism quite closely. So is Fragile X.

Mitochondrial disorders are probably famous for the one case in which they tried to "prove" (legally, not scientifically) that vaccines cause autism. The case in question involved a mitochondrial disorder.

TTRSage: throw up a poll, bro.
I can sense a lot of things sometimes a premonition of the future or many times something 'random' pops into my head, like you mentioned and if I dont speak of it, the evidence appears the very next moment so it's cool to point it out right before it comes to be, haha. This includes long term hunches.
Dont get on me, I happen to like this thread.

I wasn't getting on you... I think this thread is neat too. I think my choice of words may have been misleading though. When I said "its off topic", I wasn't referring your comment but rather mine. Maybe I will run that poll once I have time to mull it over in my mind for a while... and after I pursue my routine morning obsession. Cheers.
