This is one of my biggest weaknesses when socializing. I have constant internal racing thoughts 24/7 (am i alone here?) and they just push all of the verbal things I hear out of my head. It's like I can hear what people are saying, but nothing sticks for longer than an hour. For instance if someone tells me they're going to a concert, the next time I see them I'll forget to ask them "how was the concert?". It's also a struggle to even CARE what people are doing unless I have a genuine interest in them, but on the other hand I really want to be able to converse and connect with people.

Doesn't help that I feel like I process things slightly slower than most.

IDK if this is more an adhd or asperger's thing.

Seriously, my short term memory is inconsistent. I'm pretty good at remembering things, if I can stay focused, but if I'm distracted, then I am really forgetful.

Yeah. Inconsistent. I am terrible at things like reading a phone number then having to dial it. I have to look back at the number two or three times.

Yes, It's impossible for me to remember phone numbers, names, faces, and where I parked my car.

My short term memory is pretty bad. I have a very hard time remembering what someone's just told me.

My short term memory is terrible, I have a real hard time taking verbal instructions and will forget very soon after I have been told somthing.

On the other hand my long term memory is quite good, I can remember phone numbers, dates, conversations, facts and part numbers at work quite well, but only over the long term. A phone number or somthing I have been told 5 minutes ago I will forget soon after.

Opposite for me, my short term memory is great, but my long term memory is horribly and extremely patchy. :(

That sounds more like anxiety.

My short term memory is horrible. It's more of an ADHD thing with me. My long term memory is even affected by it.

This is why I have a stack of notes at my desk I keep using to keep track of things that absolutely have to be remembered. Like someone calling, needing to remember a phone number or what I need out of a store. Of course now I have the problem of losing the notes and finding them a month later and wondering what that was all about?

I don't quite know what I am able to remember and what I'm not. I always remember what I had done this morning, yesterday, or last week. I remember what I had for dinner.
But I have trouble remembering numbers, names, places (sometimes), email addresses, what the weather was yesterday (even though the weather is my special interest), and little tasks what aren't part of my routine (but I think that can be typical in most people).

I work in a charity shop, and we have several boxes and baskets dotted about the shop, upstairs and downstairs, and when I'm on the till the manager sometimes comes down and says, ''right, the scarves in this box are 3 for a pound, the hats in this box are 2 for 75p, the batteries in this basket are 2 packets for 2 pounds, the books in the red boxes upstairs are 4 for a pound, the books in the yellow boxes upstairs are 6 for one pound....'' and I know I will forget all of that, but the manager likes to not write the sale price on the boxes because customers are likely to try and rip you off by claiming that there was a label on this box what says this price for this amount. So I just have to write it down, and when a customer comes to ask me how much is for how much items, I have to scroll down the list and look.

I wish my memory was better than what it is.

I have a huge difference between my short term and long term memory. Sometimes I can't remember something for more than 2 seconds and other times I am able to remember some insignificant detail from years ago. In other words my memory is extremely inconsistent. Hmm, what am I talking about again?
