Sluggish Cognitive Tempo?
Was just reading some NYT article about ADHD when I got to the end and read this:
From the wiki page
I'm only just hearing this term for the first time to day, I wondered if anyone had anything to say on the difference between SCT, ADD, ADHD or any other terms you might have stumbled upon.

SCT apparently has more brain fog and is significantly less likely to be treatable with stimulants. I believe Strattera is more effective for treating this condition.
I believe that people who have SCT only present with inattentive ADD symptoms plus the SCT symptoms, but I guess Barkley says there are people who have the SCT symptoms without the ADD as well? Interesting.
It's not something I spent a lot of time on.
Less impairing than ADHD? You're kidding me? The people I have come across have depression, sleep issues and have an almost crippling amount of lethargy. In fact I may have had it as a kid and grew out of it so I have Inattentive ADHD and hyperactive ADHD these days. But I really feel sorry for those with SCT.

ADHD Inattentive
vs
Petit/absence/TLE/complex partial (seizures)
Try to find a copy of the Nerves In Collision book by Walter C. Alvarez, M.D.
(about the many subtle epilepsies) and the How To (understand) Hyperactivity
book (1981) about ADHD Inattentive by C. Thomas Wild. Both books address ideas
such as paying attention, sustained attention, cognition, processing, processing speeds, and memory. Words: the many epilepsies (such as petit/absence/TLE/complex partial and so on), the 4 ADHDs, central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), hemiparesis (weakness, not
paralysis), dyspraxia, etc. Both of the above books (Alvarez, Wild) can provide
insights here and there (no cures). More words: Nutrition, coffee - caffeine
compounds, Tirend, NoDoz, Ritalin, Dexedrine, Adderall, Dilantin, E numbers,
brain injuries, sports concussions, difficult births, multiple births, and so
forth.

I think I have SCT (sluggish cognitive tempo or CDD - concentration deficit disorder). I do not know when it started. It describes me rather well. In my country this diagnosis is practically unknown. It is harmful in social and executive ("occupational") area, but not so impairing scholastically (unlike ADHD and ADD). My parents probably suffer also because of my SCT. I may be even more irritating for them due to it.
The symptoms of SCT appear to fit me:
- I am notoriously slow, sluggish
- I am "spacey", "present but unconscious", as my mother said
- I am somewhat "drowsy", "lethargic"
- I have strong tendency to daydreaming
I may look as "in the fog". I am sometimes quite confusable and have quite low level of energy to work. I like to do things slowly, which is like a pleasant routine, which is somewhat impractical and may be irritating for others (such as parents). CDD may additionaly enlarge my social ineptitude. I have some troubles in imagining my life without something which I think thatit is CDD. I do not know if other people with AS also have it and how it infuences their level of functioning. CDD may make you like someone with below average intelligence (it is something like having low IQ in some way). I might think that all Aspies have CDD and are prone to daydreaming, "spacey", somewhat "drowsy" and "slugish". It is not true. CDD might be quite large impairment.
Interestingly, when I was younger, I was described as "hyperactive" ("psychomotorically") or even (once) hyperkinetic. I often have some problems with staying in one place, I have strong tendencies to "senseless" walking (which is like a stim).
