I have been seeing my therapist for about 4 months now, and at today's session she told me that she agrees with my self-diagnosis of AS. She is not a licensed psychologist, so it is an unofficial diagnosis, but I am still excited about it :D

Congratulations. :)

I came pretty close to that myself today. It's a pretty good feeling.

I can tell that I am Higher Powered because I was going to ask you how you came to your conclusion that you have AS. Then  I said to myself, "Self I said...VHY don't you just go back to her first posts? Surely you'll FIND the answers to THAT mystery!"

So I went in and saw where you found a list of female traits on a website called Help4Aspergers.com. Well the site also had a list of general traits that was really specific as far as how a person with AS acts and interacts with others. The part about relationships was so much ME - how I describe myself and how I act. Ditto the section Social Interactions - many of the personal characteristics as well.

This is the best list so far.

THESE are the ones that really struck home that I've never seen specifically written:Can stop putting any effort into relationship after a time, and doesn’t understand why she then stops giving too

Often times they will make no motions to keep a relationship (be it friendship, or something more) going

They won't call, and you might not see them for days. That doesn't mean they don't care.

This applies to some of my friendships! And it's true that it doesn't mean that I don't care!

At the top of the list, there is a statement:

If you are here because someone tells you they have AS and you can't believe it, the best thing you can give them is belief. No one knows what a person goes through in their interior life.

I don't know about anybody else, but after doing the research and taking an inventory of my life and applying what I've learned about AS, I am getting to the point that I don't feel like I really NEED my sponsor and other friends to BELIEVE that I have AS.

Similarly, as an adult, I know what I've experienced so that I can draw my own inference. The idea of needing someone to validate it professionally means something, but not EVERYthing. I've seen where people here have gotten criticized for seeking multiple diagnoses when the previous one was negative. If it was a suspected heart problem or something else major, you would get a second opinion, right? Well, THIS is SERIOUS and deserves more than a cursory evaluation and someone saying, "You don't act enough like Rainman to have AS." Or some other ignorant statement.

So people rely on their own knowledge - like YOU did! But it IS nice to get confirmation!

CONGRATULATIONS! :)

Isn't it a great feeling to have a sence of validation and confirmation.

When I was given my official diagnosis I felt relieved and exited to know I was always right about it afterall.
